Kickstarting Books vs Print on Demand

dear comic pals with printed books!!

so i want to make a book and i was gonna do a kickstarter to print & ship everything - but then i realized createspace handles EVERYTHING for you and is 100% profit! On the other hand, it would be nice to customize everything and have copies to carry to cons... aaa it’s so hard to decide

What are your thoughts? Do you prefer printing the books yourself or letting a POD service do it for you?

You can usually order copies of your POD books to take with you to cons.

Currently, I dont have the audience to even do a Kickstarter- it would be a fail at this point in my comic creating career...so I'm gonna stick with using POD to create books and sell at shows and online orders. Once my audience reaches the level where I feel I can do a Kickstarter and not take a loss, then I'll go that route.

Yeah I used CreateSpace for my books for Erie Waters, since it doesn't have a big enough audience to have guaranteed a successful kickstarter.
I ordered copies for myself at production cost to take to cons.

And a lot of times, working with a printer, there is a minimum order. If you can't sell all of them, you will have to find space to store a lot of books.
