I believe we all have to shows that subconsciously inspired our stories when it’s either a character, a theme, or a plot. I am a person who does this so I might be over-speculating.

I personally am inspired by Ever After High. Mostly in character designing. I LOVE the designs that were given in the show. It’s very obviously targeted toward a much younger demographic but that doesn’t stop it from being cool. Sadly it was cancelled a few years ago but I still long for new content

I'm so happy this thread exists because my main inspirations have been kids shows. My Little Pony and Steven Universe in particular.

I have multiple stories and universes, not just the webcomic I'm making. But My Little Pony has inspired a lot of my stories, with character personalities, interactions and development. I LOVE how each of the characters (particularly the Mane 6) have such distinct personalities, and I love the way their personalities cause them to interact with their friends in certain ways. And I love how their characters change and develop over time.

Steven Universe has inspired my stories too, to tackle more series subjects effectively and appropriately. I love how they show trauma and grief and guilt in their characters, and how they overcome those feelings.

For modern shows, I'm a big fan of both Steven Universe and the Netflix/Dreamworks She Ra, and would definitely consider them influences on my work. I love how they deal with issues like gender identity, sexuality, relationships and mindfulness and have so much character complexity to them.

Older stuff I'm influenced by I have to mention my favourite show when I was five years old, Maid Marian and Her Merry Men. It was a BBC live action show in the early 90s made by a bunch of the same people who made the classic sitcom Blackadder about this really grunge/punk band of merry men lead by Maid Marian, a gusty social justice warrior fighting against the Sheriff of Nottingham and King John, but every time she succeeded at foiling their plans, Robin, a total bumbling idiot, would get given all the credit. I loved the punk costume design, the gusty heroine and the cheeky humour. I'd recommend it even now to anyone who loves British comedy shows. It's aged pretty well!

Okay I was looking through shows I watched as a kid... and Cyberchase was surprisingly close to what I'm realizing on tapas now. It was semi-post-apocalyptic, surprisingly bleak now that I think about it, and had a lot of long moments where characters just talked to each other. It also taught me basic math so I guess that's important too.

God I was mad when this was cancelled. Things were just getting interesting! the ships were sailing, the lore was expanding, it was great. And then they said no, no more of this.

Scooby Doo. Gotta love a series about a group of teenagers and their dog solving mysteries.

I love that strutting scene from the opening. They look like they're about to beat the crap out of someone.

She Ra and the princesses of power, horrible histories, Sarah Jane Adventures, Danger Mouse. Need I say more?

Cyberchase is probably one of the most early 2000's things I've watched and I loved every second of it. (At least until they changed art styles to Flash and the writing just kinda fell down a hole hard afterwards...)

What I remember most is just every episode the characters would have a little sit down and discuss how utterly screwed they were, and how to become not screwed.

I gotta rewatch it sometime myself.

(I mostly remember when they had an entire story arc devoted that that Slider kid and his dad, Tony Hawk. )
