Late Hello/Western Cartoons?

Hey everyone been lurking a lot the past few days and posting a bit and thought I would drop a formal hello how goes it. Been working on a gag comic called self defeat based on me and my friends. Self Defeat
I'm posting that to tide me over until I'm confident and competent enough to do a long form story series. I think the tapastic community is just what the doctor ordered, a bit tame compared to what I'm used to but fun all the same.

Also if anyone wants to geek out about some of the "newer" western cartoon series like adventure time, steven universe, gravity falls, etc that would make me feel right at home. I'd recommend Over the Garden Wall to anyone who hasn't seen it.

I'm personally a big Steven Universe fan.The perfect balance of world building, character development, action sequences, and just plain old comedy. (Pearl best gem)

I did watch Over the Garden Wall. I absolutely loved the old-timey american setting and general slightly creepy atmosphere.

Still waiting on that Gravity Falls movie, though.

Have you seen Bee and Puppycat on Cartoon Hangover? Watching that pilot was the best laugh i'd had in months.

Hey Welcome to the forum! You're comic is looking pretty cute so far, keep up the good work!
And yes, I'm really into western cartoons right now. SU, Over The Garden Wall, GF, are all in my itunes library (I don't have a TV so that's how I support them). I really liked Clarence too though, I haven't kept up on it really and I just started watching Star vs the Forces of Evil (mostly for the animation I'm 50/50 on the writing so far).
What's been your fave moment in SU so far?

Definitely dig the world building in SU you can tell there is a lot going on, and things actually get resolved pretty quickly while still staying fun. I'd have to agree with pearl being the best, but Garnet for me is always the funniest.

Same here, its cool to see stuff from that period. I'm a really big fan of the color pallet, the dark sorta muted colors are a breath of fresh air. "Absurd Grimm's fairy tale" I think someone described it like that, I was pretty much sold at that point.

Is that a thing? Please tell me that isn't just wishful thinking!

Bee and Puppycat is awesome! It's a shame people raised so much fuss over the style change after they made it a series, I liked it and the creator explained why it happened. Not sure if that series is on hold or what I should look into it.

I really need to watch more Clarence I've seen a handful of episodes and liked them, very cute.
I heard of Star vs the Forces of Evil, the style looked really cool its sorta a shame if the writing isn't up to par. (as big of animation geek I am I can probably just watch an entire series based on good style alone.)

I think its cool when Garnet splits even though that usually means something is very wrong, but my favorite moment has probably gotta be when Steven and Connie fused and dance just because it was so bizarre. That really fried my brain for a bit, but it was awesome non the less.

Your comics make myself chuckle. They have an appealing style to them and the character expression is just what gives it that extra boost for humor.

I've been loving the hell out of shows like Adventure Time and Gravity Falls. Adventure time itself is what inspired one of my better received series currently being worked on actually. Those shows have a way of being so overly silly and filled to the brim with so many kinds of humor while also retaining a dramatic element of curiosity and depth. The balance is quite remarkable to view in an age where so many groups and projects are terrified to step out of bounds for the market.

Now the big question is which one of those shows would you deem a personal favorite?

Gotta agree with that, Adventure Time really surprised me when it came out, a good example of western cartoons moving away from pure slap stick and getting into some weird fun territory. (And not being afraid to tell a damn story!) I'll take a stab in the dark and say I can be Princess is the series you were talking about being inspired by adventure time I can definitely see it. From what you have up so far I think you definitely make it your own.

Its gotta be a toss up between Gravity Falls and Steven Universe. Adventure Time would be up their too but this last season sorta went off on tangents. A LOT of cool stuff happened its just from the way they write I know its gonna take forever for their to be any reconciliation if there is any.

Adventure time has been a great series, even with a few hiccups here and there and what have you. I'll go out on a limb and probably be smacked for it but I enjoy Fionna and cake a greater sum over the original duo. Less bro characters going on I tell you! You would be correct. I even harassed poor Pendleton with an email about it because...man needed totes reminding he is an inspiration.

I have yet to see Steven Universe but only because I would rather sit and enjoy a power session. Helps keep me glued together with the series which I failed in every way with Adventure Time and Gravity Falls. From what I hear though it is quite a pleasant tv show with balanced humor and intrigue! One day, oh yes... one day.

I'd love to geek out over some Gravity Falls and Stephen Universe. I love those shows quite a bit. I'm also a fan of Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, Scooby Doo Mystery Inc, Regular Show, etc. Check some of those out if you haven't.

Ahhh yes Stevonnie! It was so surprising when it happened but also made a lot of sense. I really wanna know if it means Steven can only fuse with other organic material like himself? In general I'm just really excited to see more fusions, so I hope he is able to with the gems too.

I need to watch Scooby Doo Mystery Inc all the way through I just caught bits and pieces, I've been meaning to get around to it for a while. Really like Regular show as well, I'm pretty far behind on it and really need to catch up (to the DVR!). I'll definitely give Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil a shot the style looks awesome. I can definitely take Disney seriously after seeing Gravity Falls. Though Pocketfloral seemed a bit iffy about the writing of the show, what do you think?

Bah I didn't even realize they had that break in there I was hoping to come back to a couple of episodes by now. I really liked A tale of two Stan's, but something did seem a bit off. Maybe it just lost a bit of momentum during the break from the last cliffhanger episode. Regardless look forward to seeing Ford around.

Yeah the Fionna and Cake episodes are definitely some of my favorites, I was really hoping Ice King would actually be able to bring them to life. (I'm sure that can be arranged though with all the different "dimensions" in the show, Fionna and Cake meeting Finn and Jake wouldn't be too far out there.) Really dig how Fionna is drawn.

Hah I heard that Pendleton does like to here that his stuff inspires others to create, so I'm sure that kinda harassment he can deal with. Must be a busy dude, but he seems like the kind of person who would appreciate it.

Definitely get that, I'll get behind on a lot of series on purpose just so I can sit down for a day and get caught up all at once, makes everything so nice and smooth as far as plot development goes. When you get to Steven Universe you will not be disappointed I'm sure.

@PocketFloral Oh snaps did not even think about that! I'd assume he would be able to, but the whole fusion thing seems to be something really personal. Steven seems to feel a bit ostracized at being only part Gem, but if he could get over that I think he could fuse. Moar Fusions!
