June, wandering swordmaster and cover band vocalist: "Not really the best food I ever ate, but I remember this one time where I got into coma thanks to a... Work accident. Of course, my coworkers pretty much dragged me off and threw me in a bed expecting me to die. I didn't, and I was out for a while with no IV drip to feed me. It wasn't until I stumbled into the car that I realized I needed food, so I asked to pull over at the nearest fast food place. Turned out to be a Mexican chain of some sort, I ordered $15 worth of food and somehow ate it all."
Iris: My own baked cookies. Although those weren't chocolate chip cookies, their still chocolate, and I loooove chocolates. So yeah, chocolate-flavored cookies. My own baked. {looks at Ash who is beside her)
Ash: (answers without looking at Iris) Darahan. It's a fruit solely from my country, and it's kind of sweet and watery, juicy. You can eat it as it is, or you can smush it and do something fun to it - mix it in your dessert, in your cup of tea--
Iris: (nodges Ash) You don't like my strawberry cookies? I kinda baked lots for you since you came to my country... you know?
Ash: I know but darahan is from my hometown and--
Iris: So, you're like... homesick?
Ash: ... Yeah, let's stick to that. I love Dayang-Dayang's strawberry cookies, but I'm homesick, so I'll choose darahan. (flashes an unsatisfied smile at the audience)
@hpkomic: Chocolate cookies, and darahan-- (exaggerates fake cough) strawberry cookies baked by Iris herself! That's their answers, folks! Stay tuned, we'll be right back.
The Daring Host: "Alist, what is the best food you ever ate?"
Being new to this show but applies some manners her godmother taught her, Alist Glassheart answers:
"Ever since I isekaied into my favorite high fantasy novel, I've been craving for seafood. Well, I live in the coastal town of Darya so its obvious that there's gotta be a lot of such cuisines everywhere but if you were gonna ask me the best food I ever ate, it's gotta be the Crystal Abalone dishes. Of all the seafoods in Darya, why do I crave those small mollusks compared to the broad fishes of the Advan sea? I may be able to savor on Black Crow Fishes, Seaweed Eels, or even the gigantic Scythe-headed Whale but going through that diet isn't enough to satisfy my appetite as a Mana Covetor. The Crystal Abalone are B-rank mana species that have larger mana plates compared to the previous ones I've mentioned. Making these Mana Fodders my meal will widen my own mana plate. I fish the abalones from our annual sea games and deliver them to my godmother who cooks the savory dishes. As for the recipes, most of them came from me! Pan-fried abalone, sautéed abalone, braised abalone noodles, cheesy baked abalone, and other cuisines that came from my old world. I guess it was because of my "poor person's instinct" that drove me to imagine myself savoring on the mouth-watering foods of the rich people. Hmmm...I wonder if I still remember other recipes in my mental cook book."
What a cool idea for a game! Lot's of good answers. I'll answer as one of my Lycan characters, Timber.
"So it was after a long hunt. We had just snagged our quarry, and were tired, but flushed from the hunt. It was a full moon. Marsh gets.. frisky... on full moons. But we had been hunting all day and I was HUNGRY. So I cooked up my questing special, a bird I killed and cooked! I call it, cooked killed bird! And we ate it."
"What? No I don't remember what kind of bird it was. Why was this my favourite meal? Oh, cause mid way through, Marsh lost patience and pounced on me, and while I had a mouth full of meat, she also had a mouth full of... well anyway, and then some stuff happened. A lot of stuff... Yeah, that was a great meal."
Hunger is the best seasoning.
Bookist: "Knowledge is really the best food and that's why I share all these books, come pick one... Aside from that, when I was part of this insane cult we once got a bag of some fruit as an offering. We were not supposed to eat them, but I was hungry and it looked juicy so I helped myself to one of them. It was very soft and sweet, with a slight punch of earthy smell and fresh green leaves. It also made me sleep and dream, after which I decided to leave the cult... One day I will tell you what was the dream"
"What is the best food you ever ate?"
Amari: Coffee.
Yangyang, in the background: Coffee isn't a food...
Amari: It's a stupid question. All food is equally good.
Yangyang: Says your black hole of a stomach.
Amari: Then what's your answer?
<Yangyang's eyes scan Amari and he chuckles>
Amari: Why are you laughing? ...Don't.
Yangyang: My ba made the best scallion pancakes. I really miss those. <smirks> Why? What did you think I was going to say?
Amari: Shut up.
(It's actually a sweet story, but I have a dirty mind, so...)
Fun topic!! Ok, here goes!
Bally, average suburban high school teenager: The best food I ever ate? Oh, it's gotta be that peanut butter chocolate shake from that one place on the way to- no, actually the chili fries from Tally's are the best! Yeah! But wait, more than that, there was this really awesome burger stand and-" (continues to go on and on )
Alright! Let's do this!
Agony: Uh... I found a box a' brandy filled chocolates after The End. That was pretty great.
Thesis: Hm? Oh, I don't know. Before The End it was a lot of the same day to day. I'd have to really think about it.
Duenna: Oh, cranberry scones. I used to pack them for school with me as a girl. and then when I started teaching I started doing it again.
Motif: Fruit tastes awesome when you're on acid.
Sequel: (says nothing)
Motif: (gestures at Sequel) He said something about liking sammies at some point.
What was the best food you ever ate?
Seth: Ooh hmmm that's hard to say! There are so many good ones!! If I had to choose though...uhh...oh! - those sugary thingies that we got from the fair! They were called...what were they called-"
Joyce: "I think you're talking about funnel cakes. We got some when we went to the local fair for the first time. It was right after we went to the petting zoo I think"
Seth: "Yeah! Funnel cakes!! So good...What about you, Joyce?"
Joyce: "oh- um... I guess...apple pie?"
Seth: "...you guess?"
Joyce: "I-it's hard to say really...too many choices y'know! haha..."
What was the best food you ever ate?
Bjorn: "Well that's easy - mead of course! I remember the first time I..."
Korr: "Um...Capt'n"
Bjorn: "Oh what is it now Korr? Can't you see I am in the middle of answering this man's question."
Korr: "Yes, of course Capt'n but...you see, mead isn't a food. "
Bjorn: "Ha! Now is not the time Korr, to be making such ridiculous jokes. Um...now where was I?
...Ah, yes now I recall... and that is when I found out that squirrels make terrible house pets."
Hello everyone, it has been a couple of days and I am still making my way through all the wonderful responses and checking out everyone's comics. I want to make sure I respond to each post made in the thread. It may take a little time, but it is what it is. The food question was quite interesting and I saw a lot of great posts that really conveyed a lot of character. This is looking to be a fun way to hone in on the voice of a character as well as promote stories.
In particular, my favorite post in the first round was by @diamondpowder; they sure can describe a delicious bowl of soup!
However, now we're onto a new question. Are you ready?
Question #2 (in character response, please): "What is the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to you as a child?"
I'll go first with my werewolf, Fang:
"When I was a child I came from a rather poor fishing village on the shores of Lake Triseria and there tended to be a lot of, well... fish guts out and about. All over the beach and the docks, and in the alleys between the houses. Well, I was a bit of a scrapper in my youth, always pick fights. I made the mistake of picking a fight with an older boy... [Fang pauses] Torel, I think his name was. We started wrestling near the big fish house, where they gut the fish to salt and seal them in the jars and pots. I may have been a fighter, but I wasn't necessarily a good one, back then. Wasn't even a big kid, either. About a minute or two in, Torel just picked me up - my arms flailing and smacking at him, mind you - and dropped me into a trough of fish guts that were pouring out from the house... [Fang chuckles] I smelled like rotten fish for about a week or so."
Adiael, wood elf huntress and adventurer: "Most embarrassing childhood event? Oh, being denied access to divine magic in front of my entire village, and then never receiving a reason WHY? And being literally the only person anyone had ever even heard of to have that problem? Yeah, that was pretty mortifying. Who, me, bitter? Don't be ridiculous..." (snarls bitterly)
(BTW, this EXACT scenario is playing out in the prologue!)
