Let's Set Sail (Shipping)

I've only been posting stuff here about promotion and stuff but I wanna try starting a legit topic as well. What do you guys think about shipping? Also which of your characters from your stories do you ship and why? Just give a brief description about their relationship and why you think they work so well together <3 Love is in the air today guys in this specific thread woo~ Can't wait for your answers.

I mean I guess I should start with mine though, in which case I should say that I ship them way too much lol. I have like 20 main characters and as a wild shipper, I've gone through weird phases with all the characters lol XD I specifically enjoy awkward teen romance and that's why my story Individuality is set in a high school (of sorts). I also like making it as diverse as possible, so no sexuality, no race, no belief is left out. Just because of that, I'm not going to go into detail of actual ships, though I do plan to add onto the topic with specific characters if the discussion picks up. And I'm also just a little shy to start with something like this in detail XD

Shipping is tempting, not gonna lie.I do all sorts of permutation and combination with my characters to see what fits best, and because of that my mind feels like a bunch of wires all muddled up.

Yeess, the best kind of shipping is the awkward one. And then there are the tsundere-kuudere ones, the fiesty ones, the roasters, gosh.

Two characters whom I've always wanted to end up together are not in my current story, but they've always been what made me grow as a person, all these years. After listening to youtube critiques, story thrashings, movie thrashings, and all those rants on bad books, their interactions changed from the superfluous passionate ones to the more realistic ones. Their conflicts and core beliefs are tested because of their love for each other and that's what makes them grow as characters. Plus they are awkward. That's what makes them special for me.

I 100% agree. Awkward romance is the best XD plus, there's room for both hilarious and cute moments. I definitely think it's good to listen to youtubers or just other people in general say about pairs (and decent if we have some practice ourselves LOL), then we can write something that hopefully doesn't come off as cliche. The one thing I always worry when writing the pairs in my story interact is that people call me out on making it cliche or stupid. It actually hasn't happened yet though, the worst I got was the word 'corny' though apparently she didn't mean it in a bad way, so I guess that's still a win! And it's great to hear that the ship has been with you for a while. That's one thing a lot of people don't realize is that shipping isn't just a fetish thing or whatever. It genuinely makes the shipper happy to think about the characters though it may sound strange to others '

Cliches are addictive if done right, no one will deny that.

I can't talk about who my ships are without spoiling them for readers. There are definitely characters I like together and intend to have get together, but I'm really interested to see who readers ship together, and whether it differs from my "canon" choices for pairings! I think some pairings that don't happen in the story could hypothetically happen in an alternate universe!

It's actually the same reason a lot of people want to keep it hush hush XD I for one really want people to ship my characters, just because that tells me they care a lot. I just hope someone starts shipping the weird ones too XD Cuz the obvious ones are cute and all but getting all bizarre can be even more fun! Though I feel like mostly, readers have different tastes than the writer and that's what makes it interesting ^^ To see everyone's own ideas.

What do I think about shipping.... I mean, I'm illustrating a romance comic here . I like to ship characters that don't get along at first but can fall in love over the course of a series. Extra spicy if it happens at a different rate and we can clearly see attraction vs. mutual respect develop. I'm not the writer for my comic but I do hope/think that's how things will work out (no question of who is getting shipped for us because it's intended as a short/pilot series so it's the 2 mcs).

Aww if only I could draw well... One could never stop me XDDD That's definitely a fun archetype to have them go from hating eachother to liking eachother but i realize I don't think I actually have a ship like that. I've read quite a few stories with those kinds of ships and always enjoyed it though <3 And don't worry! Secrecy is respected here too

Awkward is so the best. I think it's because it's so easy to feel awkward when you read something awkward that it helps you get into the story more lol.

I love shipping characters with one another - just going through all the possibilities, thinking about which ones would fit well with one another is so much fun, though it definitely depends on the execution of their relationship.
Totally get what you mean, I've gone through all kinds of pairings. There are a few canon couples that I'm looking forward to seeing my readers' reaction of, but most of the time I hint at them and take my time to slowly "set the stage" for the romance part should it come to that. Just love letting things up to my readers' imagination at first and who knows if it will be revealed as canon later on It's both interesting and exciting to see other people reacting to possible pairings and it's often quite eye-opening as it gives you some sort of feedback on how the chemistry between two certain characters is according to someone else other than yourself.

It's definitely great to take your time with it and properly set the stage The one thing that could go wrong is that a reader might get it wrong. I actually feel like that's a thing that might happen to me a lot (in fact, I just realized it already did) XD What can I say? I'm evil and set traps knowing well how
a shipper's heart works (being one myself)
