Likes, views, subs and comments, which matters to you the most?

Most of the time, you will get ghost subscribers (those who view but don't like or comment or even like but don't comment). I'm guilty of being one of them on most of my webtoon/novel subscriptions because I'm not one to openly comment unless there's something really controversial or exciting happening

My question to creators: Which matters to you the most? The amount of likes, the number of views, the sub count or the comments?

And my extra question to readers: Why are you a ghost subscriber?

What matters to me most is comments.
If I had to rank all four:
- Comments.
- Likes.
- Subs.
- Views.

Because yeah, a like means they saw and enjoyed the comic, a comment means they actively engaged with it.

I love comments the most, because who doesn't like actively engaging people about their work? Even if it's just an 'aaah this is cute' or something along those lines, its still satisfying to see you've evoked that kind of response.

Otherwise likes -> subs -> views, but those go hand-in-hand, because sometimes you have a lot of subs that clearly haven't read your work yet, even if it's an unknown proportion just because the views don't align.

I'm only a ghost subscriber when I haven't gotten around to reading yet, because I use subs to bookmark stuff. I make an effort to comment/like everything I read (I also like engaging with the creators a lot more than when I was just a reader, because I know how excited I get when people comment my stuff so I figure I'm not bothering anyone)

That's very true! Comments do feel more important to me as well since you can get like a hundred likes but if one person comments, it feels much more engaging ^^

So in order of what makes me happy
Comments (Shows the reader is actually enjoying the content)
Likes (they want to be nice and supportive but dont have enough time to pen feedback, no worries)
Views (That number makes me happy so many people have read it that day)
Subscribers (so many people want to see more or are following so that I can cross the milestone XD)

The funny thing is, likes matters the most to the webtoon algorithm since it brings up your ranks o.o but to creators themselves, the comments are the most important for engagement purposes!

Also, that's interesting! I'm gathering more feedback from other ghost subscribers to see what goes on in their minds. Like my case is different from yours so it'd be interesting to see how other ghost subscribers are like It's really nice that you actively make an effort to comment and like! You're literally the ideal subscriber

I thiiiink likes matter to tapas algorithm too, but everyone who comments usually likes anyway so the two go hand in hand

I guess the way I’d rank it (Important yo least important) would be…

Comments > Subs > Views > Likes

It’s fun to hear people enjoy your content but likes can easily be replaced by comments in the amount of joy you get from them. Views are important too but not that important. Likes are at the bottom for me as a person could comment on the story but not like and I’d be fine while when someone likes and doesn’t comment, I don’t really know how much they really liked the page/chapter.

For me, the read count is always the top stat, because my dream is to be read. I am super grateful if people leave likes and comments, but after two years as a struggling writer, I just stopped expecting it. I pray to be read, not writing into vacuum. It’s enough for me.

But Tapas counts the value of work in subs, and that’s what allows it to stay on top as far as I can tell, so I guess I want subs to get the reads?

Subs is a strange thing for me.
I like the subs number because that's what I tell people when I want to brag.
But there are so many dead subs that never read so it is sadness me when I update and the like and view isn't equal the sub count. In my world 100 subs should give 100 views on an update.

Likes I like. I count them as the real sub views. Because then I know it isn't just some random reader but someone who cares.

Comments are the best. This means I have done something that people actually want to engage with.

Views might be the boring one because it is so unpersonal. But it is actually the most important count. This shows me what episode is the most viewed and what people are returing to see again and again.
You can only like one time but view many.

i always count the views on my week-old episodes as my actual viewership, because there's always a huge drop off after the first few, which is completely to be expected. There's the people that haven't caught up yet, but the latest episodes are the best measure I always figure

HAHA! I usually read everything I bookmark in library unless I want them to pile up and save up the episodes/chapters for later (which I think MIGHT explain some ghost subscribers too)

Oooh really? I find that I get a lot more likes compared to comments so it's also a different case for me :')

im absolutely intending to, but im writing a dissertation atm so im so busy i don't have time to catch up on everything! (she says commenting on the forums while she should be reading papers)

nah, i mean if someone comments, they've usually liked as well, but not everyone who likes an episode leaves a comment

Ah! That's true. Sometimes I forget to like when I've commented though (glances at my fav webtoon where I actively comments but forgets to like)

Ya know, that actually makes sense. When I started writing on Wattpad or when I posted my first comic last year on Tapas and Webtoon (taken down now), I barely received any views so I felt like I was putting out my work into the void. It's a terrible feeling because no matter how much you try to look on the bright side, stories are meant to be read and you, as a creator, want people to read and enjoy it :')

Internet posting is a school of hard knocks, that’s for sure. And, absolutely, I don’t see the point of being coy about it. I want my writing to be read by as many people as possible.
