I used to hate inking.
Now I only hate inking when my pencils are shit and I have to fix stuff in the inks D:

Line art is so much fun, that's where you can lock into the perfect zen state and just disappear into the drawing! I love inking. BY HAND. With my intuos, wow. That's a different story. Here's a sample of fun, wonderful lineart time from my 24-hour comic day comic.

Versus the mystic realm of inking a There's No Such Thing as Jason -- I.T. illustration with an intuos. It's too... chunky? And stiff! What are the secrets to inking digitally without getting stale?

I haven't! Should I make the adjustments in the tablet property settings or in the graphics programme (Photoshop)? I've used SAI and those re-calibration settings just throw me off so hardcore, haha^^

Yeah, also, if you haven't tried Manga Studio / Clip Studio for inking, definitely do. Feels much nicer than Photoshop!
If you do have to use PS though, try Kyle's Brushes - they definitely help with that annoying pressure curve you get in that program.

I like doing it traditionally since I can do it pretty quick. Sadly that is saved for doodles and not my actual comic. Digital and borderline rage quitting all the way. It's not horrible but I feel like it takes forever.

I like (digital) inking now, though it still is the most stressful part for me. I tend to undo a line 5 times before I decide it's good.

For my wacom intuos 3 I adjust it through the tablet's settings. : )

Yes! I'm going to have to pick up a copy of Manga Studio -- I recently got Illustrator for Christmas and... the learning curve on this is pretty intense. Manga Studio seems like a pick up and go kinda thing! And thank you so much for the link to those brushes, I will definitely give those a whirl tonight!

i did a test comparision just some days ago........
btw my choiche s traditional ink. damn, i hate it because i have to set up all my things... and im lazy every thing i do. so i never ink, im full of sketches never inked lol. and i dont allow none to ink my sketch -_-"
ps: digital dont work on me. imho it s less detailed in the line, more gummy and "boring". i love errors in the ink, it give more flow.

I hate inking, mainly because it's the longest, most technical part of the drawing (for me at least) and I dislike having to essentially re-draw the thing I just drew. Also coloring is my favorite part but I need to ink to get there haha! Also I'm an intense perfectionist ;A;

I keep hearing that inking in Photoshop isn't the best? I've only ever inked in Photoshop so I have no idea what it's like to ink in any other program (well I tried Corel Painter, but learned that that wasn't going to fly.) I'd love to try my hand at SAI, but I use a Mac so I unfortunately can't get it.

My sentiments exactly! I've always heard people complain about doing lines in Photoshop but that's all I've ever used. And I'm always satisfied with it, sometimes extremely so. D:

I have a gaming laptop, so I suppose I could try SAI on that, but I'm too lazy to install that and my tablet's driver on it.

u w0t m8? Lineart rocks, it's colouring and shading that sucks.

Lineart?? Just trace over your sketch with some finesse.
Colouring? How the fuck do I shade cloth? I don't know mate, shit. Just draw a bunch of lines on a multiply layer and pretend.

Try to keep your roughs loose and put more effort into the inking stage so you're not duplicating effort. Another method is to just darken your pencils and do a bit of clean up so you can avoid inking completely.

I hear a lot of this too but it's more an issue with tablet settings and tweaking the brush engine in PS (which is pretty complicated tho). The only thing you might be missing is the stabilizer function but it doesn't look like you would need it anyways.

Since switching to digital I've had a lot more fun with line art and being able to micromanage each part. Doing traditional inks was a bit of a nightmare for me at times (still satisfying though). Coloring becomes very tedious for me even though I do it the most basic way. Fills can be stressful at times, especially if you just want it done and over with.

I guess one of my issues could also be that I tend to only use the more generic brushes of PS? I have some that I've downloaded/bought but I don't seem to get the best of results with them. Maybe that's also a practice issue.
