So I've heard enough people talking about Webtoons that I'm officially curious and made an account. However, I literally never took a look at this site before this week and have no idea how it works or what it's standard and culture are like. I'd really like to start using it as my secondary site after hearing about other peoples' success on it, especially since currently Tapastic is the only site I post on (Excluding Patreon).
But before jumping into the deep end, I'd really like to know what I'm getting into. I've heard various things that make me hesitant to join in the first place. Things like the community isn't as friendly, which is kind of a big turn off for me since Tapastic was pretty much an escape from a not-so-friendly community in the first place. The fact that there's a rating system makes me apprehensive as well and I wonder how much this number really matters on the site.
One other thing I've heard is people don't like shorter updates. Like here on Tapastic, I only update one page per episode, but over there should I maybe do 4 pages per upload? Or even more?

I'm kind of going into this site completely blind so any tips much like these forums offer people new to Tapastic would be fantastic and very helpful.
Anything is great, especially stuff like best times to upload or things to look out for or not do.

i've been using webtoons for a little while now and i have to say ??? i don't really like or UNDERSTAND it

i have 250 subscribers but only maybe five people have interacted with me, one of which to scold me for updating with only one page(my updates are predetermined and range from 1-5 pages, and i like to mix it up but the first few were just 1)

there's no analytics tool and the "dashboard" is glitchy. it doesn't even reflect accurate rating for my comic. when i try to get to other peoples' comics, i keep getting confused because the navigation is so convoluted(age groups?????)

it's a nice looking site and i guess it has a huge userbase but i honestly do webcomics for the community surrounding them. without that great culture, the entire situation feels detached and overly commercial. i keep trying to find good reasons to like webtoons but the more i talk about it, the more i realize that i could only ever use it as a low-priority mirror

also the 800px width limit irritates me a lot

Ehh it's not so bad. I put my comic on there and ppl loved it immediately which is always good. And I'm also use to one page uploads on here but they don't like that at all in webtoons ;x they will literally question you "why only one page?" "This is good so far but seriously? One page?" So yeah about 4 to 5 pages seems to be good for them. The more the better ;///
Plus they can get a tad bit pushy. I was posting daily on there at first and they kept going "MOREEE I NEED MOAR NOW" and I'll have to tell them calm thyself! D; I shot up to 700+ subs in a week though so that was neat, can't see who subscribed to me though <-< or who rates my comic?? Also it's the first webcomic site EVER to have users tell me thank you for making pages. Idk that's just something new to me so it's cute ; o ; I feel like it's only made for the feature/popular comics though cuz I see other comics in the discover section with a lot of subs but webtoons never picks up the right ones to start paying in my opinion. Buttttttt other than those things, it's an okay site for some good-ish exposure.

I'm guessing it's really reader based? Like on here, you have a pretty big community with other creators, but over there it seems like everything is driven by readers and you don't interact much with other creators. But I could be completely wrong.
Do you know when is a good time to upload? I'd like to maybe start posting this weekend, but not if it's as dead as Tapastic is on weekends.

I have been using Webtoon for a while and my experience is telling me so far so good... I have to say you gain subscribers and views a lot faster and easier on Webtoon compare to Tapastic, I don't know if it's because of their way of advertising new series or because their Discover (aka Fresh section) has less comic update daily compare to Tapastic. I do know that they have a top 5 comic base on genres to the side bar, a popular by genre on the front page of Discover and a top 5 base on rating. It allows more exposure to your comic imo. I started posting on there since 05/09 and I have gained almost 2k subscriber to my surprise. But yea I agree with @Tanisha on the whole "longer" "moar page!". I update 2 day per strip (my strip is usually drawn on a 10,000-15,000 px canvas) and I think people want something longer than that. Although so far no one had been rude to me about it. (The only comment that was sorta?? rude-ish?? not really?? was smth along the line of "This is too short! Make it longer!" and I replied to them that I'm sorry it's all I can do in 2 days, moment later they deleted their comment... LMFAO)

A good time to upload... hmp, I have been updating in the morning my time (GMT-6) but I think Monday would get the most views imo ; q ;

Every person I've talked to just seems to be sort of "eeehh?" about Webtoons it seems. |D I do hear they're better at promoting new comics which is what I'm hoping I can do with my own, but from what everyone tells me it sounds like the comments kind of have pluses and minuses.
Not thrilled about about the number of pages, because that probably means I'll only be updating once ever 2 weeks once I'm caught up to Tapastic, but I was planning on it being a secondary mirror anyway.

I personally can only do one page a week. I have three jobs, including my comic, and I just don't have the time to sit down and do a page every other day or every 3 days. I have to work at a real job and do commissions. u_u

So far I'm not having people complain about one page per week. But if they do, they'll just have to understand that I'm doing the best I can. Overall they seem to be nice and I haven't had any real complaints. I actually get a lot of compliments about my style. :'D

I would've mirrored my series "The Middle Crowd" on webtoons more actively if it weren't for the fact that they don't support gif animatons -_-. Too much work converting my animations to stills. And I can't believe they don't support PNGs!!! It seems like such a crappy file restriction.

I've been posting my comic on Webtoons since January last year when they had their first challenge league. So far my overall experience has been pretty good, despite me posting 4-5 pages once every few weeks. I haven't gotten any nasty comments (yet), but sometimes I wish there was a notification system for creators for when new comments and replies are posted.

The thing about the rating system is that you really only need to worry about unfair ratings or downvotes if you're actively participating in their contests. When the first contest was over, I found that my comic's rating was improving when actual readers gave it favourable ratings. Then, I joined the Superhero contest and my ratings dipped tremendously. I don't think it has recovered much ever since. XD;;;

From what I can gather from my experience, I think readers are satisfied as long as your episodes contain complete scenes or events which does not leave the story hanging half-way (Not counting cliffhangers). I've never gone under 4 pages each episode so that's another thing to consider.

I've been there for roughly 3 weeks, and I also don't fully get it. But then, again, I don't do manga and don't do pretty stuff, which seems to be loved there (and Tapastic, as well). The rating system can be discouraging to those without a thick skin - suddenly, I went from 10 to 5, and then 7 and back to nearly 6 again. I honestly don't pay much attention to that, but others may feel otherwise. I also managed to pick up 22 subscribers with only 13 pages up, which may not seem like much, but for my type of comic in that type of manga-dominated community, seems actually pretty good

We got a pretty decent rating on Webtoons (8.37) so we stay around the 5th page of the Discover "Other" Category.

Its in the top 30 non-romantic comics in that section, We've gotten about 100 subs on there compared to 11 here in the same time, the reactions have been about the same from the reader base. If you're posting one page multiple times a week there you're more likely to get down voted.

The combination of Rating system & fewer posters means your comic will get a good bit more attention... we post every Monday and are still on the 4th page when sorted by date (currently posting this on Friday)

TL;DR - I recommend posting it there, but not in a single page release format.
- Don't get into the contests, you get down voted in the ratings (9s get slapped down to 4s)
- They don't have any forums, no compensation, and minimal metrics. But the higher sub count makes me happy

Thanks for the advice @redlesszz, had a question, here on Tapastic I usually post 1 page three times a week and I have quite a bit of a backlog now. What would be your advice as to what size chunks to deploy those pages as a minimum per episode on Webtoons?

Our Releases are slightly longer because we have so much white space in between to create the flow, most of our stuff is about 9 pages.
Well we were playing around for our upcoming action comic we made an 18 page scroll down and it felt nice, but I would say about 15 pages is the sweet spot giver or take.

That being said our 6 page post got a lot of love, and we only heard a "too short, want more" from the 3 pager we did last week well being essentially bedridden. I'd say 5-7 is the lowest, probably better to post 10ish when you put out your first few chapters.

Also, we do post weekly so I can't really comment on how bi-weekly or monthly releases would be received.

I'm new to both and I plan to upload a 4 panel comic strip once a week. I started on Webtoons before Tapastic.
Honestly, I don't find it so bad. I hope the readers are ok with a strip. I don't wanna do long form. And I enjoy a lot of the other comics there. They don't offer ad revenue though.

Yeah they don't because there is little to no ads on Webtoon. What they have is the feature comic section, if your comic is popular enough and they like it, they will ask you to become a future artist, which they then pay for you monthly to continue making your comic, like a real job. Recently they also have a Webtoon x Patreon thing, which is pretty neat! It works for comic that are in the discovery section with a decent subs count and pageviews. If you qualify, they will personally pledge to your patreon the respective amount of money!

Yes, getting featured mean the content is exclusive for Webtoon only. Since they pay you monthly for your comic, I think it's a fair trade. And sort of, in a way, their new feature Webtoon x Patreon is the only one creators from Discovery section will be able to earn money from Webtoon themselves. It's just their way of encourage creator in the discovery section.
