LINE Webtoon - Opinions?

Well it's definitely hard for featured creators that get thousands (literally) of comments per update.

I do get people that get a lot of comment and thus they can't reply to every single one of them, but at least a few? Maybe a dozen? T_T The featured comics don't reply, I get why, but other one in the Discovery section also pick up on this practice and just leave their readers hanging.

I mean, shouldn't it be like that always? We all are just human beings.

I agree! It makes me feel sad that people tell me "You are the best creator ever" or "Thank you for replying to me!" and "Thank you for noticing me" and I keep on repeating myself saying thank you to them back for even leaving comments ;; __ ;; I'm a silent reader type so people taking time to leave a comment means the world to me LMFAO

I used to get stopped in the street years ago for my old webcomic haha. I'm thinking I'm a struggling till monkey from the arse end of Newcastle. But it's nice to be acknowledged for your work.

I've been responding to the comments so far, but I don't get that many so it's okay. They don't notify you when you get a new one though, so it's super easy to miss one and makes sense why there's probably very little engagement from featured creators.

I think a lot of the readers see the comments section as a place to interact with each other, rather than with the creator anyway. Which is fine, not better or worse than Tap, just different.

Honestly I was scare in begin but...it's not so bad I got surprised that my comic got likes in first a 1/10
it's was like oh gosh....I don't like this website blabla

then few hours laters I was at 7/10 I was like...Oh gosh ...they like my comic?
well I guess I can publish it here a little more haha

I don't actually care of the money much of times if I gets moneys...Fine!
I prefer peoples enjoying their comics

Honestly peoples tends to not complain on the shorteness of my chapter.

I've posted in here before buy I'll update my impression. Webtoon has served me fine. Voidchild is up to 144 subs over there now and steadily increasing and now with a respectable 8.06 rating (which surprised me due to my somewhat "amateurish" art). If I've calculated correctly about every 8-8.5th viewer subscribes. But it's very difficult to say. All the comments I've received have been positive. I've seen som great comics on there that I feel are rated much lower than they deserve though.

Pro's so far:

• Less need for advertising.
• friendly readers (my own experience)
• easy-to-use app and reader friendly site.

Con's so far:
- very few functions (for interface and communicating with readers)
- lack of notification systems (for both subs and comments, I have to check every page to see if there are new comments which is a drag)
- strange disparity in the rating system and not sure what the reason for that is.

Overall I'm happy with Webtoons. But Tapastic is where I'd prefer to build a reader base. I just personally find that this site is better geared towards both readers and creators whereas Webtoons feels more angled towards the reader. Sure, there are some features that I'm missing from Tapastic (page spreads functionality cough) but there's generally more for me to work with here.

The only issue I've really had is the down voting thing (which other people mentioned). I think people down vote you simply because you are "competition" and I think it's BS. Other than that is hasn't been too bad.

I got pretty civil I told it why I publish short pages and why only one episode pers pages.

Yeah, and it's a bit of a catch22 situation. I don't think there are very many of those types relative to normal people, but given the way averages work, even a small number can do real damage to a rating. So, comics with lots of subscribers aren't hurt as much by the down voters as much as less popular ones, who unfortunately are the exact ones who more acutely feel the effects of a low rating.

On the other hand such a system is highly competitive, and competition ignites improvement.

So do you guys think webtoons is only suited for mobile scrolling comics? I question whether or not single page updates would be well recieved there as it's already been noted that they get massive hate for being "too short."

It might be possible to upload multiple pages per episode, but if your normal schedule is 1 page twice a week, it would seem impossible to keep up unless you uploaded less frequently. I'm not sure which would get more negative feedback really.

Since we're taking Webtoon opinions too, as a reader, I really don't like the platform as much as Tapastic. Scrolling comics seriously hurt my hand, and I get tired half way through reading them. Even if I could get past the reader burn, I still like having pages broken up so I can return to the comic at the right spot. I've ended up spoiling things for myself so many times, because I'll be confused where I left off.

Oh, and I know it's an artist's layout preference, but I personally don't like all the white space unless it's being used to emphasize a moment. More white space means more scrolling, and my thumb will give up faster.

Webtoons has an okay interface. It gets the job done, but still doesn't feel optimized. Looking through comments on any page is a bit nightmarish too. Is the community really this toxic? D:

For the pages, I do the standard comic format, and readers seem to be okay with about 5 pages per episode. Except they won't say "too short" they'll be like "MORE WE NEED PAGES NOW MOARRR" but after explaining to them that it might take a bit to give out a few more pages, they understand and are surprisingly forgiving! Stating that my work was high quality and understand that it takes more time and are quality over quantity. While on here, it seems to be the opposite?...any poop, as a reader on there I don't really mind the scrolling format just, like you said, the white spaces annoy me a bit. I'm reading Ecstasy Hearts on there right now and the work witching the panels are overshadowed by the speech balloons AND white space everywhere! It's still an okay site though to me.

Not sure I how I could fair doing 5 pages per episode, but so long as readers don't mind the wait and the work is put out consistently I suppose it'll be alright.

Yes. I agree it isn't a lot of people doing this, it's just sad they are that desperate to begin with. But there are so many webcomics anymore, and cheating (which this really is) isn't anything new.

I believe in competition, but I don't believe in deliberately voting people down to further myself. There is a difference between doing better to improve, and increase your standing fairly, and just voting people down that compete with you. I would think it was just averages, but when you drop so much that fast, it would have to be a either a bunch of people voting you down a bit, or one person giving you a very low vote on purpose. Judging by the time frame, and the views in that time frame, statistically, it's one or two people voting down a lot on purpose.

Competition is good, but I refuse to vote people down just to further myself. We bounce back up fairly quickly, so it isn't doing a lot overall. I just can't wrap my head around the behavior, because it isn't really furthering them more than a spot or so to do it.

I'm mindblown on this actually. I can't even make it to 300subs in over one year here on Tap LOL. Though that rating system is totally toxic. It actually dropped into 6 something rating when I first posted there but I'm glad there are open minded people who still read through the series. I just ignore the ratings since I'm not competing with anyone.

I actually upload 4 pages per week there although I separate the page every episode like I do here on Tap. I gotta say, the people there really does take issue about short updates. Aside from watermark comments cus I'm that paranoid and a comment saying that Mara's jaws are manly on Ch01 pg3. LOL. I've receive pretty nice comments so far. I just don't know how to respond on the simple comments.

I do wish they have notification for comments or at least compile the comments of every page like on smackjeeves and comicfury cus browsing thru every single page is totally tedious and that's the thing it distances me from the site.

Honestly I got a 7 on 10 and got drop on 5.50 again then now I'm 6.40 and slowly increasing I,m totally fine with that it's a actually pretty good rating.

for the short issue I clearly said that my thing's was not a webtoon but a manga so the page respect the strict paneling of a manga and peoples actually stopped to complain about how short it is
and I publish one page pers episode because each of my manga pages are almost 1 MB each haha and it's horrible on loading.

Overall peoples are really nice you get a lots of compliments hahah

I'm curious, are you doing something outside of just posting and updating your comic on webtoons? I uploaded my own comic on the same date as yourself, but my number of views still aren't over 1.4k. I've recently discovered that this is a similar problem with my comics wherever I post them. I have a decent sub/view ration but I have a very low view count in comparison to others. So there could potentially be something relevant in this distinction.
