LINE Webtoon - Opinions?

Our Releases are slightly longer because we have so much white space in between to create the flow, most of our stuff is about 9 pages.
Well we were playing around for our upcoming action comic we made an 18 page scroll down and it felt nice, but I would say about 15 pages is the sweet spot giver or take.

That being said our 6 page post got a lot of love, and we only heard a "too short, want more" from the 3 pager we did last week well being essentially bedridden. I'd say 5-7 is the lowest, probably better to post 10ish when you put out your first few chapters.

Also, we do post weekly so I can't really comment on how bi-weekly or monthly releases would be received.

EP3 - 6 pgs
EP4 - 9 pgs
EP5 - 3 pgs
EP6 - 7 pgs (coming monday)

I'm new to both and I plan to upload a 4 panel comic strip once a week. I started on Webtoons before Tapastic.
Honestly, I don't find it so bad. I hope the readers are ok with a strip. I don't wanna do long form. And I enjoy a lot of the other comics there. They don't offer ad revenue though.

Yeah they don't because there is little to no ads on Webtoon. What they have is the feature comic section, if your comic is popular enough and they like it, they will ask you to become a future artist, which they then pay for you monthly to continue making your comic, like a real job. Recently they also have a Webtoon x Patreon thing, which is pretty neat! It works for comic that are in the discovery section with a decent subs count and pageviews. If you qualify, they will personally pledge to your patreon the respective amount of money!

yeah, but ain't getting featured means that your comic mustn't be anywhere else than Weebtoons?, i noticed that they include a Patreon button along with the comic, and is that their only way of monetizing content?

Yes, getting featured mean the content is exclusive for Webtoon only. Since they pay you monthly for your comic, I think it's a fair trade. And sort of, in a way, their new feature Webtoon x Patreon is the only one creators from Discovery section will be able to earn money from Webtoon themselves. It's just their way of encourage creator in the discovery section.

Ah, Slide Toon sounds ideal, that's a shame if it's only for their official creators though.
Do you think Line readers would expect weekly updates, or would they be happy with monthly if they got 4 times as many pages instead? I don't think I'd be able to produce more than 1 page per week!

Ha, yeah, I have the opposite situation. I made sure mine was print ready from the start, but that doesn't necessarily fit well with how people like to read webcomics!

I've had a mixed reaction from Line so far.
I've gotten a handful of negatively geared comments and at least one critique on my writing skill.
As well as a handful of "too short" styled comments.

HOWEVER, I've also received a much larger amount of positive comments and even one new patreon supporter thanks to the integration.

After posting sporadically for two months my stats are:
1.6K subs.
15.5K views
8.31 rating.

Not bad at all honestly.

The website still gives me anxiety but I think I'll try and stick around.

Initially I had wanted to wait to get more chapters out before I posted on Line; but after seeing here that they introduced the Patreon partnership, I decided to just go for it. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of subs I got.
I got 129 subs from 325 views just on the prologue alone. The subscription rate is a whopping 1:3! The people were also surprisingly encouraging.
It's a far cry from the 23 I have here, and that's after promotion. I love the forums here, but they sure do an awesome job promoting for us!

I'm not sure how I feel about the Webtoon X Patreon thing. It's great for people who post short form comics, but long form? They want 2 episodes a month... and that would mean 18 pages a month for me if I keep each chapter as an episode. X-X Unless I change the episodes to be a few pages at a time versus entire chapters. Each chapter I have is 9 pages (with the cover) and I can only manage one or two pages a week... I doubt people want 2page episodes! XD

I DO update 4+ times a month... just not in new episodes.. I don't really think this is fair to long form comic makers.

Anyone else have this problem?

Since in a way they are "paying" you (as a pledge from their own pocket), so it's not weird that one of the requirement is the amount of update you should have per month. As a featured artist, you are expected to update weekly! It's one of the reason a few artist I'm personally familiar with were unable to accept becoming a featured artist ; _ ;

Currently I'm updating weekly aka 4 updates a month, so I'm fine with keeping up with their requirement! Also not sure about short form vs long form. When I think about it, I just feel like it's sort of unfair for those who does long form comic to be put on the same time crunch as short form comic for the pledge LMAO Then again, short form is not all popular on Webtoon as much as it's here in Tapastic.

I update 4 times a month, just not new episodes. I update the same episode until the chapter is completed. So while I DO update 2+ times a month, it isn't in episodes.

That is more about what I have concerns over. I think if you still update more than twice a month, you should be eligible for SOMETHING. XD

In all honesty I think your update schedule should be fine! If we are talking about a "real" episode like those featured comic have, that would be insane. As long as your update is not 1 page per update I guess? I know one of the comic that won the sci-fi award last year or so update once per month, and their updates are usually pretty short too, around the same length as my update.

According to the information, you have to update with 2+ episodes a month, 3000 subs or 5000 views per update to start getting money from them. I can support and understand the sub count and view count, that makes sense. But I don't think the "episodes" is fair.

I have had a weird month getting ready to move to India, so I've not been able to keep producing pages. So I haven't had my normal update schedule. But still, even if I had been, I'd have 4 updates... but no new episodes since I'm working on one I started in June.

@ahkwardkat On Webtoon, each update is called "episode", so I think they are talking about you have to update twice a month to be qualified, rather than a real episode episode since they don't give an estimate of how long an episode should be to be called episode.

@AffectedMind Yepppppp the one I was talking about is OVERDRIVE , the winner of Sci-Fi contest and supposed to become a featured webtoon, but because the author can only update once per month, they had to decline the offer. I mean understandable since becoming a featured artist means you are getting paid to upload comic, you gotta stick to their requirements LMFAO
