LINE Webtoon - Opinions?

Sooo... You have to produce pages like crazy and they don't even pay you enough to live off of it? I mean 500 bucks is nice, very nice, but not enough to sit at home and become a full time artist (I think).

I just realized... Gag comics can be produced faster and they are getting paid same salary as creators who make whole 20 page episodes per month?

If that was the case, I would be qualified. I updated it on July 13th and July 23rd. So that would be my two updates. According to them, I still don't qualify. I would make each page it's own episode or in two page episodes, but I'm afraid that'd look bad just to get the money? XD

@AffectedMind I heard somewhere real featured artists are paid at least 2,000 per month to produce comics. This pledge thing is for discovery section's artists (aka fresh section), whom are not professional and most are doing this as a hobby. Webtoon x Patreon is not the same as Featured comics, so there is that!

I feel like not many gag comics would be chosen. Remember, not EVERY comic that meets the requirement will be chosen in this Webtoon x Patreon thing. "Up to 300 creators every month" Beside, as far as things go on Webtoon, they don't like gag comics as much as long form comics.

@ahkwardkat How exactly do you post your update again? And how do you know you are not qualified according to them? :C

As far as how I update, I keep each episode as a chapter. Each chapter has 9 pages, so it takes me a month and a half to two months to finish one. I don't want to seem, uh, spammy by having each page be an episode, though I do that on Tapastic. Webtoon readers didn't really seem to like that, so I switched to 1 chapter per episode versus one page.

OH MMM Didn't notice you can now see the stats. Okay yeah I think the main reason is because you don't have a real 2 updates per month. You have 1 update in May, then 2 in June, then 1 in July, so I guess the system doesn't register your series as an "average 2 updates per month"

I just checked my stats and it does confirm my suspicion. They count each separate update as an episode:

This month I updated with the usual 4 episodes/updates plus 1 Q&A, so the stats gave me a check and said I posted 5 updates this month!

That's wow, I don't get anywhere near those stats. I don't even get 1000 views per update or per month.

I suppose I need to get faster or make a better comic. XD

WELP shhh Your comic is one of the most detailed and breath-taking one out there I have ever seen TT_TT it's probably just had to do with luck and how consistent your update can be. Since it's summer I have been able to keep a timely update schedule plus doing several extra thing like music PV, extra arts to celebrate every time I reached a specific amount of subscribers, so that might also be one of the reason!

Well I give my extra arts to Patreon... I hadn't really considered posting it on Webtoon, but I could start looking for extra stuff to post there? I haven't seen anyone else do that. Is that a thing?

Yea it's great to post extra stuffs as a thank you or reward sort of for people who support you! I also just made a Patreon recently and plan to post some stuffs exclusively for Patreon, but I will still do random things for all my readers just in general.

I don't think it's a thing actually- LMFAO I mean I just like recognizing my readers and thank you people for spending time reading up my comics, it's why I like doing extra thing for them. It's not a necessity at all but as much as my readers feel thankful that I make the comic and deliver it to them for free, I also feel thankful for them for being there encouraging me. It's a 2 ways street afterall!

I was told by someone that the episodes in question are expected to be over 20 panels to be counted for this program (or was it the featured program) as well. Not sure on the accuracy of this.

I think Webtoon is pretty great so far. This is how they pay, I think:

I just uploaded my comic Laifu on LINE Webtoon earlier today. Laifu has been running for nearly 2 months now at Tapas and only has 28 subs while on LINE, in a span of not even an entire day, has reached 14 subs. That's half of what it reached here, only in few hours time! And this is with no advertising or broadcasting since I meant it to be an experiment......

This probably means that LINE has a very active community, and you should be fine gaining subscribers as long as your comic is good quality.

Hey all, do keep us updated on how getting patrons from LINE works out for you guys, okay?
I'm still too worried about doing it out of fear of getting bad comments and an increase in dropout patrons. >.<; I want to make sure I'm being super paranoid about this before I post up a Patreon button on my very slowly updated LINE page.

I'm surprised that Webtoons is allowing up to three hundred. Sorting by most popular and going to the 10th page (so the top 200 creators) only shows Webtoons with 2k subscribers tops. So for all of you worried about it, you still have time. The way it works is they draw in new creators every month I believe, so if you start to qualify in August they'll contact you in September.

I'm quite surprised at the amount of creators they said they would be willing to support too!

Also I highly recommend taking your comic off of other sites (don't delete the whole thing, just replace the pics) because although it's not stated in there, I know featured Webtoons aren't allowed to be on other sites so it may be the same with Patreon. Mrs Abbot and the Doctor did this along with Ecstasy Hearts.

Although this is where Webtoon x Patreon is different from Featured comics as far as I know. Even though chosen comics would be pledged with money from Webtoon, the comics would still be under Discovery section, not featured section, and thus, still following the rules of the Discovery's section:
"LINE WEBTOON does not and cannot "take away" your rights and nevertheless do not take any "exclusive" form of right to your creations.

When you go to your dashboard, you will notice there is an extra button added next to your series like this:

The middle button is stats check, and it also includes whether you are eligible for Webtoon x Patreon or not!
