Lineless or Lined art?

Most people do line art because it is easier and faster to do. Painterly styles take sooooo long and are hard to do well on a deadline. You can draw a hand in one minute--a painted hand...that is a pain.

I actually never took any art classes, but i prefer lineless, both aesthetically and to draw, but I used to be the opposite! I basically found Marco Bucci and I was a convert. That's actually why I really love painterly styles. But I'm also in love with the hidden line kinda style, I really wish I could pull that off.

The actual reason I prefer drawing without lines is because my stylus makes my lines go wobbly, and so I can have a looser style without lines : )

What stylus do you have? Good ones are not that expensive these days. And Bucci is great!

Oh, its perfectly good, the problem is the app I'm using doesn't support it, (the stylus is a ciscle, and i use ibispaint for tablet)

u can't use the fill tool if you don't have lines, right?

Sure you can! I usually draw an outline or a silhouette of what I want to fill in and then use the bucket tool. : )

A lot of people use Photoshop or Clip Art Studio.

Photoshop is pretty expensive, yeah, but CSP is a one-time purchase (unless you're a IPad user ^^"). Their Pro regular price is $50 and their EX version is around $150 to $200 (though Pro is honestly enough, and you can do an upgrade from Pro to EX for a lower price than buying EX by itself). However, they're always doing a lot of sales!! Pro often goes from $25 to even $15, and EX is around $80, I believe. And after you buy it once (again, if you're not an IPad user), every update they do is free! The sale prices change sometimes, but it's always a pretty good deal, especially for the stuff CSP offers.

I prefer viewing lineless art and making lined art. I admire lineless art, because it looks more realistic and is something that I haven't gotten good at yet. I prefer making lined art, because it is easier for me. I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone in my art making process.

Both are appealing to me but I tend to do lined art! Idk if this counts but I especially love when theres a mix of lined and line art in one piece? Like they omit lines in areas that have less focus.

I was just going to say that you can usually adjust the "smoothness" of lines - like SAI has an immediate to reach option (right by the rotate and zoom options at the top of the canvas) to adjust from Normal 1-15 to S1-15 or some huuuuuge number switches. [I work in N3 until I need a more consistent smooth line, then I do S3. S just programs in sooooo sloooowly for me)

I love reading about how people think lined art is easier and faster when for me its the exact opposite. Making lineless I only have to make a sketch then put colors on top in one layer. A lot easier to manage imo. Making things painted is of course a whole different ordeal but I for the most part cel shade with shapes.

I prefer drawing lineless art using markers for the body and pens for the hair.

I save the lined art only for comics sense there's way more colors on the computer
and that way I don't have to kill so many of my markers.

it depends on the art style, but i"m a line artist, my work is mostly lined, but I've tried no lines before i wouldn't mind trying it again.

If I were to choose, I actually prefer lineless art, but after I went back to creating webcomics, I found that it's easier (for me) to do lined art instead. Plus, the curve tool in Paint Tool SAI makes my art look a lot cleaner than the sketch version!
