There's a void in my life that must be filled...a gripping, suspenseful show to look forward to watching every night as I eat my dinner in my dorm room!

Shows I've enjoyed in the past include Nikita, Almost Human, and Luke Cage, seasons 1 and 2. I also watch Supergirl, but I don't think it's quite in the same league as the other three. ^^'

Anyway, please help! I don't need any comedies; I have enough of those. And although violence and scariness is to be expected, please do not hand me a depression fest like "Law and Order: SVU" or something. I'd like to retain my will to live.

P.S. K-dramas or other non-American shows are OK, too! I love me some diversity~

Have you watched The Magicians? First two seasons are on Netflix and I'm almost through the second one.

Here's a question, how do you feel about anime?

And if your okay with something slightly more toyetic, I recommend the Kamen Rider series (Start in the Neo-Heisei era around W or Fourze).

Anime for me is something else entirely; it's something I live and breathe, at least in terms of art. So it doesn't quite provide the same "escape" as a live-action drama.

As for Kamen Rider...I can't deny my budding interest in the franchise. But I don't think its tone would really fit what I'm looking for here.

well, since you mentioned K-drama, I suggest one called Circle: Two Worlds Connected.
I don't usually watch K-dramas, particularly because a lot has cheesy romances, but Circle is one of my favorites. Story takes place in a present and future timeline; the present is our world now, while the future is a utopian (dystopian?) world. If you like sci-fi and cliffhangers, then I recommend it

That sounds like the webtoon Dreamcide, except the future has zombies.

It's a Thriller/Mystery/Drama movie about an agent who investigates the death of young woman, it has some dream stuff elements, it doesn't give a subject idea and it's easy to follow, but the last season (the 3rd one) is very different, more subjective with signs that you'll only understand at the end, just like David Lynch Movies style

How great is Luke Cage season 2, right? So good.

Twin Peaks is awesome, I double fleohr. It's great because season one is a surreal thriller wrapped in melodrama tropes, season two is a melodrama wrapped in surreal thriller tropes (granted, it's not that great) and season three is just something else. It's amazing stuff. Nothing quite like it.

If you like Luke Cage and Supergirl, I'd reccomend Daredevil (S01 is pretty good, S02 not so much) and Arrow (has it's highs and lows, but when it's good, I reeeally love it).
Legion is also great stuff.

There's always Breaking Bad too...

It honestly depends on the season and the moment.
Despite being a kids show the drama is actually on point at times, and while the heaviness can fade quickly as characters find their resolve it does impact hard.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUGGESTING THIS TO ME!
I've been watching Circle for the past two weeks, and I finally finished it today. It was AMAZING! I'm really glad it was the first K-drama I ever watched end to end~. I wonder if they left the ending open like that for a reason...if they ever do a sequel series, you can bet I will be first in line to watch it!

This is also a signal to the rest of y'all that I DO plan on watching most of these shows, and I'm very grateful for all your recommendations. ^^ Well, on to the next!

So glad you liked it!! It's super underrated and didn't do too well among the mainstream watchers when it aired, but it's a gem! I really do hope they make a sequel because i'll be there in line with ya
