if you keep your eyes peeled on the forums, there are a few 'new &/ low subscriber comics' threads that stay busy. theyre worth scanning through to find little gems of amazing comics.
obviously im gonna plug my own comic. you saw this coming. its high fantasy with a major romantic subplot so maybe up your street? its about two young women in mythological ireland, where a very old war rages between sea giants (fomor) and humanity. Balor, young woman A, is a prisoner/soldier in the fomor army with a wicked destructive curse, and Cethlenn - young woman B - is a human witch held captive at the army's keep for her magical abilities. strange circumstance pushes them together, and uh... shit hits the fan.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand some of my favourite stories that also might be up your street. mainly less well known ones but some you just have to read because theres a good reason theyre so popular.
fishing lure has the best shading i have ever seen. phenomenal. i hate it its so good. its abt a small town boy who elopes with the local sea monster, and its pretty new so a good time to pick it up imo.
hadephobia is also pretty new, i think. its like... really weird, but good weird, and a very well put together comic. its about some mutated friends getting sent to hell, and has a really fun cast of characters. i love the main character especially - shes proper grumpy. i love a grump
full spectrum therapy is popular and well established, but so good. im not sure how to describe it actually. its like... aliens have invaded, but they invade via peoples minds, and meanwhile the worlds carrying on as best it can and there are still emo kids and teenage dirtbags galore. i wont pretend i actually know 100% whats going on when i read it, but i enjoy every second.
spire is also fairly established - hit its one year anniversary recently i think - but soooooo good. a really enjoyable read. its about vampires who band together in an air ship on a quest for a mythical spire thatll make them all human. meanwhile, theyre being chased by vampire-slaying robots. its packed with colourful characters and intricate plot thats only just unfolding, really, and its so fun to read and reread and try to figure out whats gonna happen next. this is one of my favourite comics on tapas.
also, just trawl through peoples reading lists if you like their comic / their taste. i think thats a really good way to get recommendations (or trawl through their comments if you wanna see what they like abt the comics rather than just that they like them)
