I'm planning on making my novel available for sale as an ebook and I've been working on different cover designs. The story follows the short but passionate relationship between Mike and Elio while exploring Mike's struggle with anorexia and Elio's fear of intimacy. I've narrowed the designs down to two different ideas and I'm looking for feedback to better understand which design is more visually appealing. While critiques are welcome, you can also just say which design you think is the strongest. Thank you in advance for any and all replies.

Blue on Blue

Yellow on Black

Hello!

I think yellow and black design is better. The blue background used on the blue design one are too bright, at least that's how it shown on my phone. Also, black gives out mysterious vibe

I personally like the blue on blue, I find that monochromatic art speaks to me a little more and has a melodramatic vibe lol

The yellow and black has potential, I think if you get rid of the black border on the white text, it would clean it up a bit?

That's a good suggestion, I will definitely try the text without a black border

I can see the emotion more in the yellow cover!
I wasn't really sure what I was looking in the blue cover, but everything is clear in the yellow one.

In response to @delladz suggestion, I re-did the yellow cover without the black border on the text. Thoughts?

Something about the paper/pencil texture on the figure contrasted to the flat color background doesn't work for me. It clashes too hard. I would add some texture to the background to make the whole a more complete image.

I considered adding texture to the background @KevinReijnders but I was worried the image would be too busy and the figure and text would get lost. Do you have any suggestions on how much or what kind of texture I should add?

I'd go with a paper texture of some kind. And just play with the opacity until you feel it looks right, it's not an exact science

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely try adding some background texture.

After experimenting with other backgrounds and different textures, I am pleased to announce the final two cover designs for your review:

The original cover

The new cover

Personally, I like the blue cover waaaay more than the black and yellow one.
