Simple question kids. Do you make your own fonts for your comic, or do you borrow fonts from...somewhere else?
Making your own fonts would be ideal, but i usually go to dafont.com and search for the one i need.
I use various free fonts usually, but often i find that If i need something for a specific sound effect or a one panel effect, I find I font I already have that's close to what I want, and simply draw on/over it and add to it (like sharper points, or a dripping effect on the bottom etc). it adds a nice variety, especially because I am terrible with fonts and lettering in general XD
I use dafont.com, fontspace.com, and 1001 fonts.com One day i do plan on making my own fonts but that will be a while from now haha I have a lot of artwork to do.
I use AnimeAce font for my dialogue text (the same kind of font you see in manga), Trebuchet MS for my labels and watermarks (ex. the titles, year, and website label), and if I have to draw sound effects or anything I usually hand draw them.
ahaha we use the same text!
I just hand draw my text, though there are some nice font sites. I've been fond of fontsquirrel.com, they have a nice one called action man that might be useful for comics
Just depends on what i'm creating, at the moment I currently use wild words and hand draw sound effects.
I hand-draw my text too.
I use http://www.blambot.com/Yes, a lot of the free fonts are on dafont, but the advantage to using blambot is all of his stuff is licensed for use in comics and webcomics. Some fonts on dafont aren't and you typically won't know unless the track down the author's site. I just play it safe.
Yes, Blambot fonts have fonts free to use for indie comics and webcomics, as Nate Piekos supports the indie creators. However, major comic companies like DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, etc. are not allowed to use them.
This is a great resource I didn't know existed! Thank you!!
