Your comic looks really nice!
My BF asked me: "Is there anyone who's rich from making comics? Anyone at all?" I just laughed and said that as a comics creator the only treasure we bring home is intellectual. Or something like that.
Ok, to the point. I've heard that Marvel/DC is unfortunately not bringing that much money per page, but having a steady pay check can make up for that in the long run. The artists who's made a name for themselves there might have an easier time selling their own stories if/when they tire of super heroes.
All of us wants to make our own story, our own comics and have them known and famous to be able to make a living out of it. That's hard, so hard to do. People want to see something they know, something to make them feel secure. That's why Calvin and Hobbes are still running in newspapers, that's why fanart sell reasonably well at cons (and fanart was banned at London comic con this year as a result) instead of original content. It's sad but true, and all that we could do is keep at it. Maybe take something else at the side, like illustration work or maybe not the great epic story that takes 5 years to make, but short stories that people won't mind taking their time with.
I also think we're in a breaking era, where people don't want to pay (or carry home the heavy books) for print, but "everything digital/on the Internet should be free!" because people don't realize what costs are. My prediction is we'd have to wait something like 5-10 years before the market is somewhat stabilized and digital products have the same status as hard copies. Time will tell.
