I have a bunch of different mentor characters, but for now I'm gonna show off a semi-crappy one. He's halfway to being a decent role model for Lady Lock but then he's kind of uhhhh???!?!?! How do I insert the SVU special victims unit noise? Anyways, that's the vibe, so we do not stan him in the house. Slander him if you wish. I'll do the same for your not so great teachers.

LOL I feel bad saying this but Fr. Jose looks just like abuelo I'm literally dying here He's a short old man and he's also very swole because he used to be a professional (allegedly, i think it was more hobby) body builder. He sort of acts the same way too...very cursed. He wanted his sons to become like him but one became a stoner, one became a guitarist, and my dad is an artist so much for him trying to teach them lifting and katas sdsfkdsjkl

I think Claudita is more of the kind of teachers I would appreciate! Is she teaching him meditation? Or is it more like unlocking Sage Mode from Naruto....

I think it might be the later seeing the "leveled up" Eman.

@abigaillmartin OMG YOU CAN'T JUST DROP SPOILERS LIKE THAT (I'm joking of course I love hearing about other people's stories) But I really need to get back into your webcomic, I'm still in the beginning I feel like? But oh no mystery dad?? I guess since he's a dad he already fits into that mentor archetype, only it looks like he's mentoring Ernest more than his own daughter I wonder why Elsie thinks her dad is dead? What mysteries lie ahead...

I may finish up my science fiction story that has been on the shelves since 2018. It is called Omega City and it’s about a group of kids living in the future where they go rescue their whole city from aliens

Elsie? Hmmm since at least the beginning of 2023, but I drafted it or at least convinced the idea of a steampunk superhero while I was working on Cracking Eggs in 2021.

I also want to do an Elsie spinoff called “Houdini Backstage”
It is in the style of The Office (American one) where it’s in the mockumentary format. There is a hypothetical 1900s film camera 🤣
It will present his escapes in a comedic way almost slapsticky

Let's see, for Dreamseer there's two mentor figures, the first is Adamos. He was a pretty good teacher to Aster but also partially promoted him to high mage so he could make him do some of his work, so, yeah.

Beryl was a more responsible mentor, but she was gone for ages. Also, she likes to call Aster a spoiled brat, lol.

And then Antemortem has the worst mentor figure. This is Ethelred, Cassian's mentor and a necromancer. He raised Cassian and then tried to sacrifice him so he could live longer and now he's hoping to finish the job. He's not getting any Best Mentor awards.

@abigaillmartin Oh yeah! I've seen some of the characters you've dropped here a few times from the Omega City, I remember seeing the name around. But you've been working on Elsie for not too long and you got so much done, that's pretty impressive.

Yeah the “Houdini Backstage” one is just an excuse for me to gush about his escapes and stuff. Also just to write about his life in a comedic way.
I’m especially feeling like Theo and Harry are going to get into a lot of brotherly squabbles.
They already do in the Elsie comics it’s just it’ll be turned up to an eleven.
I am also thinking about adding his engineer Montraville M. Wood who once worked for Thomas Edison.
So this series will focus on Harry’s escape stuff getting crazier and crazier.

@vapidink Oooh lots of mentor characters I see!!! They seem to play an important role in the stories then? Lol I love the comment, "he's a handsome old man" I agree he is very pretty. Both Adamos and Beryl look done with Aster's nonsense, is he a bit of a handful as a student?

Also booo!!! booo!! tomatoes at Antemortem, no in all seriousness he does sound like a really awful mentor. He was just sort of using his student as a pawn in his deranged plans then? D: He could possibly get the award for Worst Mentor in Fiction though. I don't think I even have any mentors that try to kill their students, intentionally anyways.

@abigaillmartin You should go where your interest take you, that's what I do too! It keeps you more dedicated to the project, it can be hard to work on something that you lose interest in. But I don't think that'll be a problem with Houdini centered projects lol. I think it could be really funny too, but also have the potential to be slightly informative with the amount of Houdini facts that are gonna in there

SAME!!! I have like three novels I'm currently writing, one is at 40,000 words, the other almost 20,000, and then ones itty bitty at 7,000 words lol. My focus goes BOING all off the walls like an uncontrollable bouncey ball

That’s why Omega City has been on the self since 2018. I lost interest in the storyline I wrote originally. There were several of them. I didn’t know what I was doing with it. Now I just want to make it into a fun science fiction story. I went for more serious tones and drama but I suppose that got really boring. I was a teenager when I wrote that first draft of it and I guess I wanted to make it edgy 🤣🤣🤣
