People have absolutely ridiculous expectations when it comes to webcomics. It's honestly just gross how judgmental people are.
The Game of Thrones shows (both the new stuff and the old stuff) are easily the most popular ones out there, with a massive portion of the west being avid fans. They also HEAVILY romanticize pedophilia, rape, and all kinds of fucked up shit. They don't even just show those things with just the overhanded excuse of "but that's what really happened in history!" (because yes, history definitely also had dragons and magic and shit), the shows aggressively romanticize rape and pedophilia.
And it is so, so often that the same people who watch that stuff will turn around and circle-jerk each other to hell and back in forums like these about how people shouldn't write unhealthy relationships or taboo things, or basically anyone not being a perfectly 1 dimensional Disney princess.
Also, not everyone who has flaws is fuckin' toxic. People throw that word around like grains of rice. No. It's okay to fuck up in life. People do stupid things. People make mistakes. People can get angry, or say something wrong in the heat of the moment. They aren't goddamn toxic. Yeesh.
They'll drool over Khal Drogo, then admonish folks for writing a scene where someone pervs on someone else in a mild manner.
I genuinely despise people like that. There are a lot of them. They're creatively stifling, unable to comprehend the separation of fiction from reality, and often hypocrites. If we never wrote anything dark, we wouldn't have so much amazing literature and art and film. They're not any better than the assholes who want to think a kid's book about two father swans is evil, or that video games make kids into killers.
I could rant passionately about this topic for a long time. lol. It pisses me off on a whole other level.
