Need Advice From Artists

Next month, I want to start drawing again. Honestly, I love drawing, but I'm not good at it. Luckily, there are many good resources online these days, and I'm wondering if people can tell me their favorites or the best ones.

If anyone does live streams, I would love to follow you. I want to have a more anime art style, so that's what I'm going to work on.

I gotcha, Akaluv! This is what has helped me. I recommend folks to memorize the mannequin before drawing. This will help your art excel to great heights! The mannequin and then do anatomy. But, we can leave out the anatomy and just do the mannequin if it's too much haha. (BABY STEPS!)

Here's a video I used this summer that helped me to draw in every pose. It'd be great if I knew this beforehand when i first dived into comics! But, now i know!

After practicing enough times to understand the mannequin. You can start with anatomy!(if you want). Stereotypical anime art is big head, pretty eyes and cool hair. (depending of anime art style. Sienen manga art is more realism). There are even sub-styles; which, get complicated. The key to anime art is eyes and hair. There's also key factors in child to adults. Like older adults having a more bigger nose etc. Honestly, once you put your practice on the mannequin( and anatomy if you want). Your anime/manga characters will become more fleshed out!

I did a tutorial on backgrounds...at least I did my best to teach it haha! If this doesn't help, there are others on youtube!

• You should definitely watch some of Mark Crilley's videos:

He's been drawing comics and illustrations professionally since before the internet, and his personality is pretty entertaining too.

• Then there's Josiah Brooks (Aka Jazza).I'd recommend him on entertainment value alone, but he's also got some great tutorials:

I can never recommend him enough, especially if you're interested in flash animation and a good laugh.

• Finally, I'll point to Sycra for some interesting art lectures:

Practice Tools for Artists

it gives you timelimits and randomly generated poses / expressions / etc based on some guidelines you set, which is great! however... its bank of photos is kinda small, and a lot of the women are very very thin which makes them less helpful to draw.

are great!!! once i got fed up w line of action, but got the hang of their session style, i started using senshi stock for figure drawing practice. realistic bodies, realistic (and fun) poses. also useful references for drawing in general (although if you post drawings that used them as references, be sure to credit them!)

Thanks so much!!! I'll definitely go to the art supply store and get a mannequin! As for the anime art, I want to start off small first to find my art style, and then I'll move on to a sub-genre =)

I really need to take baby steps, and my goal is to upload some artwork in December!

Wow, almost every video that I would recommend is already in this thread! So I just want to throw my 2 cents in here and say no matter what your style is, even if it is stick figures, DO NOT SKIP ON ANATOMY. Seriously, don't skip this step or else you're just going to form bad habits that you'll have to unlearn later when you finally do give in and start studying anyways. Actually learning how to construct anatomy, control motion and balance a figure properly will give you 90% of the skills you need to tackle literally anything else you could put on paper. The other 10% is just a mixture of observation and imagination.

Someone else already linked Proko and his anatomy videos are a perfect start, and totally free. From there, I would recommend the Vilppu Studio courses (worth it). Once you have done those two, you should be able to dig into any other anatomy resource without too much difficulty.

Also, there is a book I highly recommend you read ASAP, called "Perspective for Comic Book Artists" by David Chelsea. It is the best beginner book on perspective I have ever seen, and wrapping your head around the concept is essential because if you don't understand perspective, everything else will be 100x more difficult. It's actually in comic book form too so it's a quick and easy read with great examples on every single page.

Oh no the point of the mastering the mannequin video is to draw without the need of a physical mannequin xD. It's to learn how to draw without it! & awesome happy drawing!
