Need advice on updates after a story has ended!

Happy New Year! Hope you're doing well~

Something's bothering me and I'd love to hear your opinions!

Context:
I made a short story earlier in 2019 and now I'm planning a sequel for it later this year. At first it felt okay to post update/progress episodes to update the readers who would be interested in it. Now however, it's getting to the point where if I keep going the updates will have more content than the actual short story had, and it doesn't sit right with me!

Question:
As a reader does it bother you when an author uses their finished story to promote a new one? I'd love to hear why!

If it doesn't bother you, is hearing back from them for progress updates something you personally enjoy?

If it's finished, then no. It's all good! I mean, as a reader who have read something from the start to finish, that means I enjoyed the work. If the author says at the end that they are working on new stories, then I would definitely look forward to it!

Definitely not, if I love someone's story I would love to know what they are doing next, and reading that in the finished story is the best way not to miss it But it's better if there won't be that many updates, just a promotion will be better

I'd be glad to get told a new story has started!

But I wouldn't want updates on how the creative progress is going. I feel like that stuff belongs outside the comic, like on twitter or something.

I wouldn't be bothered at all, if anything if i enjoy that author's work i would be happy to have them tell me about their new story. Chances are high that i would subscribe to that as well.

I agree with you on that! I feel like that's what's been bothering me is the amount of updates I've been doing. A promotion later down the line and closer to the publish date sounds like a great compromise. Thank you!

That's a very good point! Seeing the progress is not everyone's cup of tea. If it was any sort of extra content, they would want to see it of the characters themselves. Thank you so much for your input!!
