@CyndiFoster no - forums are not supported from the mobile app. We're using a third party solution for Tapastic forum and that software doesn't seem to be mobile-optimized yet.. we'll see!

@jasonvandyke thanks for the bug report! I can't really reproduce here, but cc'ing @Aiden . Can you try again after re-starting your app?

@N3WSAGA we might add sorting option to the comic lists view in the future. cc/ @daronakira

For the time being, no... as @ck_tapastic mentioned, optional cover banners (shown at the top of your series on the web, in place of the normal thumbnail) appear as a background image in the app, but we're not using the feature banners or tiles anymore. There's a small possibility we'd use the large, homepage banner-style artwork somewhere, but it's unlikely as we're trying to cut down on custom, one-off assets in favor of reusing more consistent pieces everyone can add to their series (i.e. thumbnail, cover banner, etc.).

Oh wow! Did you guys optimize the forums for smart phones? I logged in this morning and completely different and awesome! It's not crashing my phone anymore and I don't need to zoom out to see everything, this is great! Also, what do the earned titles mean? I got notifications saying I earned basic user, member, reader, autobiographer. Are there ways to earn more titles based on how you interact in the forums or are they just categories?

@daronakira I've recorded a video showing what's happening. It can be found here: http://youtu.be/4blq5cjyTXI9

Featured in the demonstration is Singmire Haze - episode 12, under permission of its creator, nox.fox.

Please compare the episode at Tapastic (http://tapastic.com/episode/389192) to the one showed on the video to spot what exactly the top and bottom bars are obstructing.

The app was running on a Moto G (1st gen), Android 4.4.4.
The video was recorded today (01/07/15 at 11:10am GMT-3)

Simple - some sorcery from @isyoon smile We're using a third party forum software and we updated to the latest version that now seems to support mobile better. Glad you like it !

Thanks so much @guilhermecahu . This is really helpful! Are you still experiencing the problem? We released an update yesterday with a potential fix.

@brianorlando You're welcome.

The phone downloaded the update today but this problem persists. Actually, this video was recorded after the update.

Ok. Thanks for the heads up! We'll keep looking into it.

haha!

Fun fact: I WAS THE FIRST TO GET THAT BADGE THIS VERY MORNING

y'all can't compete with my achievement hunter skillz

Thanks again for recording this @guilhermecahu! We thought we'd fixed the issue, but will keep digging.

It appeared to be something to do with whether the device's screen had the back, home, etc. buttons on screen or below as separate keys (which impacts the available/visible height), but it's a proven a bit inconsistent and hard to reproduce on our set of test devices. We'll get to the bottom of it!

@Aiden @ck_tapastic I did try restarting the app several times but it had no affect. I waited until the next update, tried again and it connected without issue.

I have no idea what you guys did, but it works now. Thanks.

Hey guys, just heard about your site today but I'm loving it already! One noobish question about the app, is there a way to upload comics directly from my phone to my series with it? And if not, is that feature coming soon? There are still ways around it if not, but it'd be amazing if that feature were in here. Thanks!

That's a great question - currently we want to separate the app from the webpage in terms of functionality. We really want creators to upload and create episodes on the webpage version (SPOILER ALERT we'll be announcing some cool news about why in the near future) while focusing the app to be more reader-centric.

Any Android users out there who have been using our delightful new app... How do you like it so far? Feedback always greatly appreciated!

(PS. iPhone users. Hang on tight. New app coming soon)

great stuff! (Y) looking forward to using it , keep the updates coming smile

I definitely prefer this app to the previous one. I think the daily comic snack bit is cute I just hope there is more variety in the future than the series that tend to be featured on it. (Especially considering I'm subscribed to a few that tend to be featured thus meaning I get repeats more often than not- if you could work it out so that the five comics were ones the user wasn't subscribed to already I think it'd be neat.)
I hope the notifications that are only available on the computer website so far get implemented soon, and aside from that it would be nice to have the forum built into the app itself.
Overall I've found the app to be rather stable.

I do have one issue though in that this app doesn't let me view the comics in landscape mode for some reason? Considering I have a small phone it can make it hard to read some comics on portrait view. Is there an option I somehow disabled for allowing me to turn my phone? Is it not available for some reason?

Exactly. Expect to see more long form serials there in the future. Our best webcomics page3 already supports "see more" collapsed view that accommodates long form comics rather nicely; we could have similar UI on the mobile Snacks view as well.

Yes working on that too. One day you'll see this!

Here is a more comprehensive list of app feedback now that I've had more and more interaction with it.
I'll preface this by mentioning that 90% of my taptastic interaction is on mobile, and I only use the browser for forums seeing as how there is no other option. Therefore there is not gonna be very much comparison since I'm unaware of most of the browser and mobile site features. (Is it sad that I went literally months without knowing about notifications?? One day I went on the site on my laptop and was completely confused as to what these 50-some little red messages were...)
Good things:
Overall everything runs smoothly- I've never once had to deal with the app crashing or freezing. The only time I've ever gotten an error message was during maintenance time, which, of course, is completely expected.
All the art for menus and what not looks really good and gives the app great personality. I also think the current yellow icon pops out a lot more than the previous red one.
I like that I can load all the series in my notification section right now, for those times I wanna check on a comic again.
All the menus are unobtrusive while reading and functional when pulled up.
Love how uncluttered and easy it is in general.

Wants:
Now that I know notifications exist, I of course want them implemented on the app. (This has been adressed but I'll list it for completion's sake.)
I reaaallly want to be able to look at comics in horizontal mode.
Also being able to navigate pages with swiping as well would rock.
This one is a little obsolete maybe but one comic app I use gives you an option to move back and forth through pages via the up and down volume buttons and I super love it.
Showing the featured comic on mobile.
The ability to sort different genres different ways.
Settings beyond comic snack notifications in the setting center in general.
Enter button beside/inside the comment boxes when you're commenting on comic pages.(It took me almost as long to figure out hitting enter twice on my phone left a message as it took me to realize notifications are a thing. I kept hitting X and wondering where my comments went. Maybe you shouldn't listen to my feedback actually I'm not very smart.)

Great app though- it definitely has a cozy spot right near comico on my phone. Keep the good work coming.

I love the new app.
I do think the comic snack should be optional or easily skipped.

I noticed that the comics appearing in the different categories are slightly different.
For example Shades Of Men1 appears on computer on the 4th page of Popular and not at all on the app.
Wonder if you are using a different algorithm for the app than for the main site.

Otherwise, Very Happy! wink

Appreciate the feedback!

Weird. It's working on my end. I just tested this and it appears to be showing all the series in the proper order. Is this still malfunctioning on your end?

Thanks for checking.
I think I got the categories wrong. I don't know what is the equivalent of Popular on the app.
The trending comics does show the same titles.

Popular is "popular" on the new app. When is the last time you updated? We changed some of the categorization in our latest update to match the site. That could be why you're seeing different categories.

No worries... I totally got confused with the categories.
I updated on the 6th of April with the update 2.0
Still don't see Popular but I'm sure it's hiding somewhere!

That's not a problem anyway. The app is totally awesome!

Thank you for swapping out the x for a friendly paper airplane in the comment box. Finally the death of various witty remarks won't be in vain.

When you reply to a conversation though the only option is cancel. Any chance getting some sort of send button there as well?

Can I make a suggestion!!!

My husband has the attention span of a nat! so i tested the app on him. Overall he prefer it to the mobile site, bonus! something he asked for and I think would be great is this:

a side swipe action to go to the NEXT page/episode of a comic. He said Imgur has it and hes super comfortable with that kind of intuitive design.

You can currently swipe up/down between episodes in the Android app. However, we noticed that this is not very apparent at the moment. Give it a try and let us know what you think. By swiping, would your husband have preferred left/right I am assuming?

yeah I think thats what he tried to do on instinct. Like when hes on imgur he'll scroll down the page read or view the content then swipe to go to the next one. I'll mention the feature is there and see if it works for him.

He's my test bunny, primarily because he reads a few webcomics but not a lot of them so it looking at a glance at non-readers.

Is it possible to turn off the comic snacks so you can't see the comics? I appreciate the intention of the feature, but today was the second time a comic snack comic triggered a bad phobia of mine. As it is though, the comic is the first on the snack list, meaning I have to wait til tomorrow to feel comfortable opening the app.

There is, isn't there? I think it's in the profile options on the device

You can turn off the daily snack notifications via your profile settings in the app. You can't however turn off the comics in the comic snack feature (since it's the main tab in the app). Hope this helps.

I just joined tapastic yesterday and since I only have my phone to browse with, I gave it a shot but have to say that my browser works a lot faster and more reliable. It seems to be on a very good way, though, so I'm looking forward to an updated version. For newcomers ( or maybe just me ) the (seemingly) extreme differences between the layouts of main page, mobile version and app are a bit confusing, so I can't give you a better feedback for now.

Sorry to hear that.. are you using Android or iOS? Can you describe your experience more? Is the app very slow and crash-prone?

I'm on Android and my biggest problem is that a few buttons on the menu sometimes don't work or take much longer than other things, jumping to an artist's page gives me an error message aft er which I'm told my connection is down until I actually put it down and up again. The five comic snacks (really like the idea) take rather long but work fine, as does browsing and reading comics unless the page contains more than one image because they load randomly and so I'm often fooled into thinking I'm viewing the top of the page which is not necessarily a problem to anyone else but me, I guess, but I thought I'd mention it anyways... so please just trust my trying to be supportive but horribly failing, okay? ^^ There weren't any actual crashes. (Almost forgot)
So thanks for this site, the app and trying to further improve it. ♡ it's all very appreciated.
