So, I guess Tapas changed their site a bit, especially the front page. Not really an upgrade, in my opinion.

But also... the new site keeps logging me out! I know that's an insignificant thing, but it's turning out to be pretty annoying when frequenting my page to respond to things, and I have to log back in 3 or 4 times in the same day.

If anything, it is deterring me from spending too much time on it. lol So maybe this is a good thing? :cry_01:

Anything you guys are liking/disliking about some of the recent changes?

It's a feature, not a bug

I've asked about the new site logging me out all the time on discord. Haven't heard anything yet. It's either a bug or they're constantly updating the new site

My only problem with it is that the "free" filter content has been removed and that's not a fair or smart move. Everyone started somewhere and a lot of the comics that went somewhere now had humble beginnings and were free in the beginning. By not allowing users to have the "free" filter, they could be missing out on a lot of great comics. Plus, it takes away chances from authors moving up the ranks and not everyone has the budget to only read comics they have to pay for.

Basically, the lack of a "free" filter option when going through content (comics, novels or both) only puts popular content on the forefront and keeps the unpopular never seen which is sad because I don't think Tapas wants that. One of the things I always respected about this place is that Tapas always gives every user a chance to move up the ranks and get noticed indiscriminately hence the contests, Inktober and more. Tapas wants everyone to succeed which is why I even issues a ticket in the Tapas Discord to put the "free" filter back. It is needed and it was very important feature.

I think the new design both sucks and blows.

As @MK_Wizard said, they removed the “free to read” filter and have, naturally, placed all the so-called “premium” content first. When I was first checking out the new design I had to scroll through 104 “premium” comics before I found a free one under the BL section.

Worse, Tapas is actively hiding content. When I checked the LGBTQ section there were 41 comics displayed, and about 35 of those were “premium”. I subscribe to about a hundred LGBTQ comics, and there are thousands on Tapas, so why is it only showing 41?

I think they did it on purpose. This is merely another attempt to surpress small creators while pumping the “premium” ones. First it was the spam notifications. Then they restricted how you could earn ink. Now they’re burying free content. This could be the beginning of the end.

I've only had this problem on mobile. (Logging out bug) But yeah, although the new look is fresh and all... its still kind of a pain to deal with all of the incomplete problems that were left before they pushed it out.

Ah. I reeeeally hope that's not the case. :cry_02: But there have been some things happening here and there for the past 3 years I've been on as a creator. Am hoping they will listen to the complaints and tickets about these issues...

Truth be told I don't really care all that much. I rarely if ever leave my dashboard page when browsing Tapas haha.

It's also not really that surprising to me that the site is changing in this way, it's par for the course for any hosting service or social media adjacent website. At a certain point sites like these reach "critical mass" and no longer needs non-paying users and free creations to shore up the front lines. It can start cashing in on the established userbase, or at least it hopes so.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but the whole "this isn't what tapas wants" or the part of "climbing the ranks" is just idealistric. The site was no doubt founded with good intentions, but even the best of intentions get overtaken by a business mindset in the end. It's just how these things work unfortunately.

The main goal is always; 'to make money', whether by ad-sales or directly by users, that's what businesses do. Tapas is no different.

I issued a ticket AND wrote an email. I do hope they'll listen especially if enough people talk about the removal of the "free" filter.

I think they will listen because I really tried to make a sound argument without coming across as offensive or angry. I also suggest that the rest of you make this same suggestion. If enough people ask for the "free" filter back and diplomatically, they will listen.

I don't really understand what you mean by "bringing the free filter back." I get that it's confusing that the Comics and Novels sections only have paid works and they could definitely be labeled better, but you can still "filter" by going to the community section where there are only free works

Still haven't fixed the 'Mark as Read' button for the spam section of the messages.
