@Kura
Oh yes, I also read such books (I actually read that one for sure (the novel), but the illustration looks so familiar I'm pretty sure I actually read that specific book. There must have been a French version, or I saw it at an English-speaking relative's place).
I wonder why illustrations are so uncommon in adult's books. I understand why they are not necessary, of course, but not why they are so rare!
@Zaboem Public domain illustrations are a great idea to illustrate! How do you make sure the specific photo is free of rights, through? Are there libraries of free to use pictures that you are using? I thought of using public domain illustrations to make a special for my comic, about the various classical influences it has, but I'm worried about that aspect, being sure that the specific picture is free of rights..
I had your work in my list, but I somehow lost it. Back on it now. (I'd like to understand how theis dead subs thing works. I don't dare subbing to things I know I won't immediately read, but it's not practical to keep track...)
@silverraven0 Could you link to an example of such a novel? I have to say I have no idea what they are!
@ZFalk Thanks! Yes, I think Tapas is the place for that. I think I would probably not have had this idea without Tapas, actually. When I see how many readers read novels and comics on the same website, with different but still similar expectations, I think there should be a good acceptance of something falling somewhere in the middle.
I will read your novel, for sure! The banner already got me interested! (I got a big LĂĽbeck vibe, but then I saw the tops of the houses did not match. Wherever - real of fantasy - it is, it's an attractive banner for me).
@KRWilliams
I'm aware it would be the ideal thing to do. I'm not sure how possible it is. I abandoned this story 10 years ago because I can't write (well) in any language anymore. My French is in ruins and my English never really improved during that time my French was degrading. I don't think I can go for a full re-write. My spouse is an editor but he is only available 2 months a year, so I can't really count on him for heavy edits.
This being said, I know I can't just take the descriptions out of the text and let things like that, it would look choppy and uncomfortable, and maybe even not legible at all. I'll have to have at least some replacement in the text, but rather than only adapting the style, I'd like to make the descriptions significantly less precise and more succinct in term of actual word count. I'm not sure I'm able to. I suppose I'll post a few sections on the forum to get some advice before working too much on it.
Thank you very much for the advice!
