NSFW - How far is going too far?

Hi guys. I'm just wondering, if you do nsfw comics, how far would you go without making any trouble?
Are there any rules in regards on what to draw or the story?

After asking this, probably the conversation here will be nsfw. Lols!

Any of my own NSFW comics would probably just fit the typical NSFW criteria tbh blood, gore, language, sexual content, etc.

They just don't want pornographic content on here

But that's my problem, Uzuki, what makes the comic defined as pornographic? What to show and what not to show? There is an artist here named Dogado, and I really liked his art (but his content, a different opinion). Sometimes he shows partial nudity in his works from time to time, but he never go overboard by showing the privy parts down south. Is his work, say be a good example of the limitations of an nsfw comic without going overboard? I think "softcore" is the right word for comics like that.

Okay, how about this, imagine a mature film, like John Boorman's Excalibur, in comic version, will that be acceptable as nsfw?

I agree with Uzuki. This is an interesting question; but I dont think I can improve any answer. I think if you still can't find the answer after reading the publisher faq you probably might need to ask by mail in the contact section.

Now this is just my personal opinion and not based on neither what I saw around here nor what I experienced myself (as I don't have a series yet), but...

I believe its a matter of context. What you do with the images and what you intent to do.
Nudity becomes pornographic once it tries to arouse people. Or to shock 'em.

In comedic surroundings (for example) nudity usually stays simple nudity, without being called "pornographic". Because its part of the joke and for entertainment purposes instead of turning people on.

Then again, I might be wayyy off for US or Asian standards, since I'm European and we don't make much of a fuss over naked people to begin with. :3

This is not enough to define what the site doesn't want to show. I think Tapastic needs to improve on this definition, because if not...well...it's anything goes when it comes to adult subject matter.

In action comics that happens quite a lot. Most heroes got girlfriends, most of them several over time, and some get us such scenes. Yet I wouldn't go around and call Marvel or DC comics a pornographic magazine, right?

Even if DC Comic's "Power Girl" is basically just sexual jokes and explosions.

Right. The seduction scene, using the Excalibur example again, is necessary for the movie, since Arthur will bear his evil son from his half-sister.

Agreed. It's what makes the difference between a comic like, say, Homo Sexience or MeRanCoRi (which is within a group of comics/comic artists that tend to have a bit more of a lewd approach to their comics, but again, in a comedic sense) and a hentai manga you'd find on coughs fakku.net coughs

If it's a comedic approach (and even Homo Sexience and MeRanCoRi as I mentioned above doesn't go crazy with the nudity, it's mostly just -implied- nudity most of the time, although some comics have had full-on nudity, but mostly just with the female characters) then some nudity and sexual innuendos are considered NSFW but not quite pornographic.

Whereas if it were something like the published hentai manga where it's not meant to be comedic (well SOME of them are kinda silly but that's beside the point) but made to be used as a form of arousal for the reader and nothing else, then yes, that's pornographic (and pornographic manga/stories have lots more nudity in it and breaks the barriers of "implied" nudity).

my definition of NSFW would be like something that would get you into trouble if seen by someone like a fellow co-worker or somebody else in general.

that being said i guess something NSFW would be anything from excessive violence, scandalous innuendos and stuff people would not let their children see.

and with the pornagraphy issue we're talking about i think just as long as the glory spots are not shown and the act of getting it on is not visually shown. i think stuff like sexual innuendos could get a free card just being labeled as NSFW (though i dunno, i don't have much experience drawing NSFW content myself)

Guys, will comics like Oglaf be allowed? Since its NSFW, no one would see it.

However, I have to remind the site developers that I can see NSFW comics from Tapastic on my tablet with the Android App for Tapastic. It seems it allows to view it.

They need to fix that .

I get a little nervous about pushing it too far. My comic is humorous though so it diffuses the perversion ever so slightly. It is about a post-apocalyptic fantasy world where the main characters are 3 heroic babes with ridiculously large dongs...so you know, I keep it classy?

This is the Internet, and there is a lot of stuff out there that I would consider going too far. Mostly it's going to be about audience and what you need for the story. Who do you want to read your comic? If you make a NSFW comic, assume you've cut out most of the kids and teens from reading it. If you go too far, even many adults will say this is too much and tune you out.

I don't know what Tapastic's rules really are. I know if you fail to mark it NSFW, they can take down pages or even ban you, but if you mark it, I don't know if their is a point where they still step in. Some of the Japanese hentai stuff gets extremely graphic, and for many, offensive.
