Odd sources of comic inspiration?

I was just curious if anyone had any odd inspirations for their comics and if anyone could tell what their story was by those things.

For my comic I used martial-arts movies like Bloodsport, Mortal Kombat, and Enter the Dragon as well as old 16-bit fighting games like again, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Eternal Champions, and Tekken.
Also a ton of Adam Sandler movies and cartoons like Dragonball, One-Punch Man, and Space Ghost.

Judging by those references, it sounds like your work is some kind of underground martial arts tournament series.

My comic is a portal fantasy/isekai series, so I suppose I could say I am inspired by the likes of Magic the Gathering and Planescape, and other fantasy series that feature travel between dimensions. Given that the main character is from modern day Earth, I suppose I'm also influenced by Doctor Strange, my favorite super hero comic.

Though, I'm also inspired by mythology and the occult, particularly things like Gnosticism, Hermeticism, and Kaballism. I don't believe any of that stuff, I just think that wizard stuff is an aesthetic.

Ultimately, the germ of the idea for my comic was a dream I had. I had been suffering from a miserable, depressed slump for many months until I got started on anti-depressants, and had a dream somewhat resembling my comic. I was instantly filled with inspiration, and renewed passion for my work. That's what I call better living through chemistry, right there.

Oddly enough, my comic also came to me in a dream. I quickly had to write down what happened because I didn't want my mind to screw with the details.

Even though my comic is a sci-fi webtoon, I took lots of inspiration from years of political activism as well as shit that specificially happened to me as a woman because -laws - and transferred these experiences into my story.

A failed experiment with nanoparticles in grad school

Summary

I had two types of fluorescently labeled nanoparticles in two different cell types, and the idea was to track them over time. If the things had worked as it was promised, cells should never have the two types of nanoparticles (except in the case of rare cell fusion events). In the image, almost nothing should have appeared on the top right quadrant but the things just went everywhere. I wasted so many months of my life At least the idea of Claudia's character came out of it so oddly enough I'm glad this didn't work out.

Asides anime my comic is heavily inspired by classical and medieval music

I am also fascinated by religious art and folklore, cautionary stories, legends, witchcraft, miracles and superstition.

Poems and philosophy books are also a big part of the inspiration. Deep down the comic is about life, death and existence... I know is not evident because it starts as an adventure super colorful comic.

Most everything I know about being funny I learned from British comedies. I watched them every week on PBS or anywhere else I can find them.

I largely grew up on the classics - Are You Being Served?, Fawlty Towers, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, et al.

I was nine years old when I discovered Monty Python. Ive been a fan ever since.

well for the characters I take inspiration from multiple sources such as dragon ball, cage of eden, hakaijuu, and green worldz, while I take the nature element such as wilderness, land layout, animal/creature, and monsters looks and how they act from things like cloverfield, godzilla and ben 10(classic-omniverse) and the world/universe itself is inspired by the movie annihilation, isekai genera(instead of a person or group of people being transported to another world its sections of the planet and other universes planets transported to a massive planet the size of a galaxy so I can have some large amounts of leeway).

All of this made my series' base and I've crafted it from that point to where it is now. I would share more but I'm afraid to do so before I publish it.

When I read your description of your story, I had to give it a look. It's pretty awesome and unique. I've been on Tapas for years and I personally haven't seen one like it. Great comic!

My usual inspiration comes from anime/manga and random experiences, thoughts, and things I've learned about in classes or researched on a whim, which I think is pretty par for the course. I think the most out-there source I've had and one that dealt with some incredibly heavy events is the a book Night by Elie Wiesel that I read for school. I'm apprehensive to call it "inspiration" since it's about the author's experiences in the Holocaust of all things and I'm not trying to encroach on what that book means.
