Hi,

I started working with an artist friend on a small fantasy comic.

But there was something I was wondering:
Telling a story, what is more engaging. Telling it in one fluid go meaning the comic will be told in one go from beginning to end or telling it through finished short stories, where the story is told through little stories that build upon each other.

For the moment we just work on an initial or test chapter to see if our story and/or characters are engaging enough to continue. And if we do, how to tackle it.

Even if I have a preference, I wanted to hear a few thoughts on that and what others think and like

My series is technically a novel but it's a series of short stories under one underlying premise. It's worked out pretty well.

I hope it is ok to ask
How are/did you tackling it? Did you write down a rough outline of the story and then started parting it, or started writing it in these short stories from the beginning?

For me, I think of series like a television series. My main cast is introduced in part 1and building from their character development wise. I am what is called an "organic" or "pants" writer so I write where the story goes naturally. If you are planning on making sure your stories all interconnect, I would recommend writing your stories individually and build from there. A problem I had in the early stages before I found my preferred style is that I'd introduce something in the early chapters of part 1 and forget it later on, etc. I'd often get lost in my world-building if the structures didn't jive. Go with your gut.

Thanks for sharing

That sounds a little like I am doing it at the moment. I had planned the rough outline of the story where I want to go and in the end, I thought about how to divide it - I am no writer, so it more chaos for me
But again thank you for sharing, it helped me a lot.
