Only gonna talk about novels because I don't know much about comics.

Here's a list of the sites that I know of that I would consider using:
royalroad
moonquill
inkitt
scribblehub
swoonreads (this seems quite promising, but they seem to be looking for completed manuscripts)

there are other smaller sites, but their site traffic is low, so I don't see myself really getting much success there. (odeen, writeroo, theprose.com, sweek, etc etc.)

Webnovel has a large reader base, but I don't like the terms and conditions or the terms of their contracts.

Tapas is the best for me, followed by Royalroad.

They're shady af, even their readers know that, but I know of a few writers there that make 6 digits/$10k+ per month (they're romance writers) so I guess they aren't that bad (altough you could make a lot more self-publishing on Amazon KDP) anyways, thank you very much, I'm out of favorites/hearts rn, but I'll give you one later on.

I know, man. I know some writers who have gotten contracts there, and they make 10K Indian rupees or more per month. That's not a livable wage for most people, but it's still a good amount. I don't think I've read any of the contracted stories. Are they good? From my experience, the stories I've read on Webnovel aren't better than the ones I've seen on Tapas. If I'm being blunt, writers on Tapas seem to care more, not only about plot and getting reads but also the technical aspects of writing. Proper grammar, sentence structure, etc etc. Am I wrong?

I was talking about 10k USD, not indian rupees, but then you say about this dude that make 21k USD o.O I can't say much about the contracted stories in terms of writing, grammar, sentence structure, etc because I'm not decent in my second language (English) lol, but in terms of plot, they're filled with filler, that guy you said, probably updates twice or thrice a day because of this, 99% description of random stuff that don't matter, and 1% of plot....

I'm sorry then, I thought it's my fault, because I didn't specify the type of currency, and I don't think that their filler stuff cover any character development, or help with pace, if anything it ruins the pace, lol.

I can imagine. Also, does Amazon KDP work? I've seen writers say that it is a lot of work to put it out there as a novel, and I imagine there's a lot more competition. You're not just competing with other indie authors, but also trad pub authors. There's also the question of marketing and all that.

It does work, but like you said, there's a lot of work, competition, and marketing is something you solve mostly with $ there (Ads) but there's some workarounds, like writing a niche type of book, instead of writing "generic genre" you want to write "super specific subgenre of a bigger subgenre" lol, that stuff get popular without marketing, and it's kinda easy to put out a lot of books, they don't have to be novel-lenght either, one of the most sucessful authors there put out 1 novel per week, 50k-75k words per week, and she doesn't use ghostwriters either, she's that greedy lmao.

She does more or less 10k words per day, 2k every 2~3 hours, break, more 2k and so on, she said that it's easy when you follow a "formulaic" plot, and you treat it like your day job + hobby, If I'm not mistaken, Stephen King does 5k a day, and he treats it like a day job, and also follow a formulaic plot.
