Awww this looks like such a fun idea!!!?! I need to come back here when I finish my other trades lol XD

This is so cute I love it!

May I share your drawing of Alicia on my IG and tag you?

And yeah I love faces too XDDD. Faces and hair are my faves

@ArtGremlin me realizing that Mrs. Moon's purple suit gives Ian revolutionary war vibes. Apologies in advance for how bad I am at drawing poses.

I tied his hair because she loves tying her hair with ribbons

Bro is beautiful <3 I can totally imagine him wearing something like that if such a fashion existed where he lives.
Feel free to share any of my drawings I’ve made of your characters on IG ^^

Glad you like it XD

Isn't the story post modern? are they pre-revolutionary era (though I know it's not standard earth, so those events probably didn't happen)

Omggg that would be so cute 🥺 I wonder what modern outfit you would put her in! I need to finish two art trades before I can start tho but I’ll send you a ref of her when I’m ready :3 … I’m currently working on said art trades now because this sounds like so much fun

@beebutterbee You can send me a reference of Chariot now if you like, so I can take my time on it lol. I think I'll put her in one of Alicia's dresses because they're both squishy girls, so they'd probably suit her, but it might be interesting to see how she'd wear one of Essence's dresses since their builds are basically exact opposite (well, unless Chariot is tall, then they're just very different.)

To get really technical, their society has been cut off from the world since the 1400s or something. Whatever year it is, they aren’t really up to date on the latest trends  Most of their fashion involves flowing robes, puffy sleeves, fancy boots, and pretty earrings.

So like, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue era XD?

Okay! Sounds good to me  When I get to I think I would be fun to draw Essence in this outfit from a sort of punk/alternative girlie I have lol She’s an alien :sparkles:

(Fun fact her story is on the same planet well um moon… Butter Bee takes place in but they are so vastly different lol)

Here is a Chariot ref btw! She isn’t super super short but compared to a lot of characters her being 5’ 4”/5’ 5” looks very short. Feel free to draw her in whichever one of your characters clothing ur vibing with most ^_^

@beebutterbee

this is a cool design, what's the story about, and what ethnicity is she?

XD, well that puts her 5-6 inches shorter than Essence, and 7-8 inches taller than Alicia

I'll have to get you a good reference pic and description then. Essence is the polar opposite of my Lise in almost everything lol.

are those markings on Chariot's cheeks blushies or tattoos?

The sort of made up city I made for the story Mey is in is very Turkish and Chinese/Hong Kong…ian? I guess you’d say Cantonese  anyways that’s the inspo… so her dad is based off of the Uyghur and her mom is based of someone of Chinese and Moroccan decent. So Mey is Black as well as, central and east Asian. But it’s scifi so there aren’t the actual names of real ethnicities in the story but I show a lot of cultural things tied to her still!

Sorry that was a lot of rambling lol I think my special interest in probably world cultures :sob:

It looks like Chariot is right in between everyone’s height xD I think she reads short because her girlfriend is 5’ 10 so like a half a foot taller than her lol And the circle swirls are just blush! I just have it stylized weird for butter bee lol

A ref pic of Essence would be good tho!

Well, that’s probably closer to when the island was founded. The story takes place a couple hundred years later, but the culture has probably stagnated a lot, so kinda

@beebutterbee

No worries lol. I like hearing about people's inspirations, and I ramble and write so many different people of different ethnicities too.

Essence is African-american of Sudanese descent, her little sister is biracial white American on her father's side, who I think is probably of Dutch and English descent. Essence's ML, Dominic, is Vietnamese, first gen American.

It seems like a very large portion of your OCs are multi-ethnic as well lol, which you probably have more of them than me, though I have quite a lot of multi-ethnic or biracial OCs as well.

Here is a reference of Essence + a bit more detail because my art is not good enough to make everything as clear as I'd like it to be rn lol:

Essence is 5'10, very thin (would probably be like a size 2 ) without nearly anything in the way of curves. She has long legs though, which, along with her hair, are the two traits she's proudest of lol.

And (though you can't tell from the picture) her complexion is canonically nearly literally black. (inspired by Nyakim Gatwech)

She has very sharply slanted, always slightly sleepy eyes. I have no idea why her eyes are slanted, because no one else in her family has them. At least as far as she knows.

I was thinking of long distance runners, and also celebs like Zendaya and Taylor Swift with her build lol. But the eyes still have no point of reference, I don't know where they come in.

there, now i've rambled and we're even lol

Ah cool! Yeah I like that you have so many different perspectives put into your work too. The world is so gigantic it’s hard to choose what inspiration to take from sometimes xD I think I have a lot of multi-ethnic characters because I have so many people like that in my life. I think it might be an artist/creative thing? Idk a lot of my friend’s parents are also artists or creatives somehow so I wonder if that’s why our parents dated people different from their own heritage? Just things I’m thinking about I have no actual answers lol

And I love Essence’s hair! I think she will be fun to draw

Also my uncle goes to Vietnam to fix orphanages! He’s a welder so he does the metal work for things. I have Vietnamese characters too, although I haven’t drawn them in a while but they are OG Channah characters from when I made them in highschool XD (Also my name is Channah that probably sounded super random out of context :v:)

Ohh, I just assumed that was the name of one of your series lol. Where is the name Channah from? Do you know what it means?

Also fixing orphanages sounds like such an angel job. He is definitely racking up karma.

My names are Spanish and Hebrew (I'm not Hebrew, my parents gave us Bible names.) My name is technically Lael, but I spell it differently to make it fancier and more distinct for marketing lol. All my other names are super common.

I have a couple of Vietnamese characters, but most of the others aren't in novels (one is, though I haven't written the novel, I have the whole plot outlined, it's called "Ice Box" and the FL is Vietnamese.)

Yeah, one of my goals is for people of ethnicities from all over to be able to see themselves in my work, because for so long so many of us have felt like we barely even exist, at least in the media.

It is an interesting theory that being artists would lead people to date outside their heritage, perhaps because you're always looking for beauty? Though it's not always the case, because I know older relatives who are artists and still seem to shun this pretty hard.

Same! Me and all my siblings have bible names too ^^
