Page or scrolling format?

I was thinking of doing scrolling format for my next series, but I don't know if it's a bad idea becuase what if I gain enough traction to print someday, but at the same time I rlly wanna make my comic as beautiful as possible (and avoid drawing chapter covers no one gets to see if I do conversions haha). So any advice?

I like reading pages better than scroll comics, but scroll comics will get more support from Tapas - more likely to be featured, etc.

Have you considered stacked pages? That's what I would do if I were designing a new comic for release.

From what I know, there's plenty of comics that got printed copies but started as scroll comics and they still look great. It takes some rearranging, but it's definitely possible and it's getting more common now a days. I would say to go with whatever format you think best fits your story. Also, there's a reason scroll format is so popular on sites like Tapas, it's a lot easier to read scroll comics on the app, so there's that to keep in mind.

I personally prefer making - and reading - page formats, and i think itd be easier if it was ever to be printed, but making it a scroll format doesnt mean you couldnt rearrange it to be printed (especially if you made each episode able to be split up into pages from the get go) like @vapidink said. its also true tapas favours scrolling (though comicfury for example favours page format), but at the end of the day, i'd say go with what works better with your comic and what you want to draw.

I prefer page formats, but I personally do scrolling ones because the one time I tried a page format everyone complained about it 🫠
But yeah, if your goal is to try and print some day do pages. It might not work well for tapas given how its harder to read pages on a phone-- and the max width is no where near printing size (iirc) so you's have to keep multiple files saved of it. I don't know a lot about printing, nor page format since I only do that for one off character comics I throw on twitter or whatever.
Might want to take a look into multiple places to post if you go with pages since they'd be easier to read with a bigger canvas than Tapas tends to allow.

yeah, thats a good point about multiple sizes. i have my pages as.... a4 i think? (2480 x 3508 pixels) and i always have to make the image much smaller when i post to tapas (and then i delete the smaller copy just cause i dont need it anymore). i also do post elsewhere, though - on comicfury, but also deviantart and tumblr

If it's really well written and visually appealing then imma read that thang non stop like im eating cheese cake!

Full page strips are easier for me to upload. Plus the whole page is on the screen (no scrolling needed) and Tapas give you the option of zooming in and switching from portrait to landscape mode.

That said, I am interested in a multi-page upload version to see how many viewers it would get.

Realistically 99.99% of the audience will be glued to their phones so a scroll makes the most sense

Is stacked pages when you place multiple print pages on top of each other. I know some comics that do that

I prepare my pages for print and then stack them in scroll format.

I prefer scrolling format. Way easier to understand. Just my opinion...

Honestly, do both. Draw in traditional page format and convert to vertical. It adds hour or some of work time but you won’t have to worry about it later and you’ll have both on hand.
