Seriously. HP was a huge part of my life when I was growing up; it shaped a lot of how I think about the world and about morality -- particularly how I think about friendship. And I looked up to JKR so much when I was a teenager. Wanting to be a fantasy writer myself, I spent a lot of time watching interviews and trying to figure out how to be just like her. I'd thought she was pretty much perfect. It still stings, honestly, to know just how much she isn't.

But I think that it is still perfectly okay to love and resonate with the art, even if you can't respect the artist anymore. Those books are beautiful, and they're not going to change just because JKR has. I don't think there's anything wrong with continuing to enjoy them!

There are a lot of things even in HP books/movies that I didn't understand as a child and now understand it as offensive. It's hard to entirely hate the series because of that though, like you said, we pretty much grew up in that world.

I'm not really sure what this topic is about but I noticed I was tagged by @Dysis (thank you for the shout ), but since the topic switched to Rowling, could you explain to me what exactly did she do? I've just heard a lot of people talking about her cancellation and whatnot but I haven't had the chance to look into it. And whenever people talk about it, they're kind of vague... so I'm still lost.

Right, the cancellation is mostly revolving around Rowling's offensive depiction of trans. She made a book about a serial killer and made the killer a cross dresser, which was offensive. I hope you'll understand in the following thread:

Ah, that's a complicated issue. As in the previous comment, I do think there's value in the writings of the fool, but when it comes to children, we do need extra caution. I wouldn't throw Oodolf Hootler's book Moin Kompf on a fire for its historical/psychological value, but I wouldn't want the kids to be reading it, since it preaches all the wrong things. I don't want to entirely derail the thread -- I really like the topic of this thread! -- but just as a sort of summary: she's basically become a spokesperson for the idea that trans people aren't really trans; that there's some sort of worldwide conspiracy that is convincing young girls to transition; and that trans women are somehow a threat to cis women. This despite the fact that actual trans people keep telling her that she is incorrect.

There's a lot on the Internet about why all of these ideas are painful and harmful to the trans community, so I'm not going to get into that, but she's doubled down and really dug her heels in to the point where it can't just be dismissed as a difference in opinion. People are upset because her books are about tolerance and acceptance and love, and she's proven to be a hypocrite about that.

I still think the books are wonderful (though, as Dysis said, not without their problems). I don't think that an author behaving badly means it's time to throw books we love into the fire. It only means that it's probably better to buy them secondhand for a while rather than putting money into her pockets.

1. What is your favorite type of Halloween treat? - Again, I'm not really a candy person, but if I were to choose, I'd go with sour skittles. (I hate sweets)

2. What types of music do you like, or a new type of music you've discovered? - I listen to literally everything, and that ain't exaggerating it. My music portfolio goes all the way from Russian classics to Hip Hop, 50s music, remixes, Rock, and all kinds of languages. Oh and Queen is the best band ever to exist (no debate on that one) and their philosophy while making music is literally a way of life for me.

But here's my favorite undisputed song ever.

3.Who is your hero(s)? - Interesting question here. Well, as a writer myself it only makes sense for me to really stan for a writer, but I'm actually more so drawn to the japanese way of writing and drawing aka manga. The greatest inspiration for me to start writing is without a doubt the master mangaka Eiichiro Oda, with his masterpiece One Piece. One must only read his story and look into his schedule to understand what makes him such a genius. I mean, I wish I could be as crazy as him XD

Second favorite mangaka is Yoshihiro Togashi, with his equally great masterpiece Hunter X Hunter, however Togashi isn't necessarily known for his "hard work" and "great personality" so instead I'm just mentioning him to stan for Hunter X Hunter (seriously, check it out).

1. I didn’t grow up with Halloween, but I’m loving the Reese’s mini pumpkins this year they have the correct ratio of peanut butter to chocolate otherwise, snickers.

2. My recent (ish) music obsession is Two Steps From Hell. I only “discovered” them last year and I just love how epic they are! I’ve always loved movie scores, so it’s really not a surprise how much I love them

3.I have mixed feelings about “heroes,” but, with the understanding that nobody is perfect, my dad is one of my heroes he’s always done his own thing, no matter what people tell him and he’s lived an incredibly adventurous life because of his stubbornness dedication. He has so many amazing stories and experiences and always told me and my siblings that we could and would do amazing things as well.

My “were” story, to literally no ones surprise, is Shadow Fox by LizzieJones it’s such an amazing series and I just want everyone to read it and love it as much as I do

re: Yoshihiro Togashi -- there's something about his work that I really admire... Even when a page of Hunter x Hunter was clearly done in five minutes, aesthetically it tends to be on point. There are blank backgrounds everywhere, but as I read, I never felt like they were floating in space. Also yeah I really loved the Chimera Ant arc

1. Halloween Candy: As a kid, I liked cherry Tootsie Roll Pops the most. The only thing I've eaten recently is M&Ms. I am constatnly evolving.

If you like modern-fantasy and a bit of mystery why not check out TLC?

The comic is about a young girl that gets kicked out of an orphanage for her unpredictable powers and ends up getting taken in by a shapeshifter into a mish-mashed adopted family. she has to learn what it means to be herself, be part of a family, and uncover whatever the family's butler is hiding before its too late!

The comic has got aspects of modern fantasy, mystery, found family, slice of life and LGBT themes (mostly i later chapters). I'd probably rate it at PG-13 (specific Pages with PG-13 content are flagged as such in the episode tittles as well)

1. We don't celebrate Halloween here. From what I concurred from Halloween common sweets are they're incredibly sweet and can be gross (Reese's is).
