Yeeah. Most times I fight the urge to flag those :grimacing:
Maybe we should ask for a regulars lodge again, to make a "someone flag this with me" thread lol :smirk:

It's not a good promotion method but I was tempted to do it on this thread for the laughs.

I won't since just mentioning it already gave me a laugh so that's good enough for me. 🤣🤣🤣

P.S. also someone already did it then edited the message which I found funny as well.

It does irk me, when I see it... It's like... ugh, just put your link in your bio and then if you have anything interesting to say, people can have a look. People don't click a link just because it's there! :sip:

I do have pretty low expectations for whether telling the people who do this, "hey, you'd have a better time getting readers if you changed up your promo strategy to something more focused, not just dropping your link everywhere", would really make them change. Even if they were getting posts muted they'd probably be like "Waaaah! The Big Creators are bullying meeeee!" We've had so many threads where people who have built a readerbase have laid out solid advice and it always seems to come back to people being like "But it's not faaaaaair, my dislike of putting effort into my presentation and social media strategy is special and different from everyone else's!" It's like they can't even imagine that other creators also have feelings and lives that make this stuff a chore, or that people who read comics and novels want to read things that are nicely presented and not difficult to read because they also have feelings and want to be entertained rather than feeling obligated to validate them like their mum or whatever... I just....urrghhhh :sweat_01:

Pretty much it's desperation to get people to check out their series. Chances are those people probably have already given it a glance and thought it was not their thing, but you can't mindread so those creators keep trying.

@Kelheor Should I drop mine? lol I'm joking.
Yes, I very much agree with @DualDragons the lack of engagement makes the authors go crazy. I go crazy myself from time to time, however I'm trying to stay a decent person, not to bother anyone :joy:

@DarkSena oof you are walking on the thin ice :tapa_mummy:
Jk jk, I mean, I do understand why people do it (in the end, I did participate in the promo threads too), unfortunately most time it comes off as rude (imo), since they just through the link everywhere disregarding even what the OP of those threads wrote. Someone asked for a review? Throw the link. Someone asked a question? Throw the link. Someone said "hey I am new, check out my stuff", throw the link again :information_desk_person:
I wish this topic wasn't tied to the one RedLenai made about the promo threads, but it is, it always is.

Yeah, I got recently some drops in direct messages saying check me out and gimme feedback :joy:
I cannot say that I was very eager about it.

Why did you say that?
Now I am tempted to send you a link lol. 🤣🤣🤣

This!!! Unless you create a review thread, you don't need to link your work on everything! It's annoying.

I think people see it as a way sign off on their post or as a signature of sorts. When I see creators do it, I wonder if they go back and check the links only to see that no one has clicked on them.

Tbf if the profile picture allures me I do click on their link lol.
But if not... meh I ignore it.

If I was an insect you would lure me with a shinny light.

I honestly find it humorous.

Imagine, an Off Topic thread:

Parents don't want me to draw anymore! What should I do!?

response: OH NO! I'm so sorry.
[LINK TO WEBCOMIC/NOVEL]

Come on. That's alittle bit funny. Maybe just for me. I have a level of detachment from this forum where I almost can't take anything serious here. With that said....you know....um...
[LINK TO WEBCOMIC]

Basically this :stuck_out_tongue: It doesn't bother me if the comment contains an actual reply as well, though I guess it does grate on me a little if they also explicitly ask you to check it out :sweat_02: Like,

this

doesn't bother me, but

this

Please check out my comic

does for some reason :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, about putting your link in your bio, note that if your Tapas profile description is over 3 lines long, it's not gonna show up in the pop-up that appears when people click on your avatar :sweat_02: Conversely, if you click on someone's avatar and you see no description in the pop-up, they might actually have a description; it's just too long to show in the pop-up! Go to their profile if you want to see for sure :stuck_out_tongue:

I can see how it's tacky here in threads that aren't promotion threads.

Coming from another site that has forum signatures where you're encouraged to put the link + cover to your work, I really like that system, and it feels like there's less people over there explicitly asking for others to read their work in non-promo threads. Plus it doubles as passive advertisement. I wish more sites had something like that.

Yeah, I love forum signatures. My link is always there, if you like what I say you'll like my comic and you can immediately click the link. Never have to do any advertising so I can focus on having quality discussions.

You know. This thing wouldn't be a problem if people 1. didn't spam the threads 2. remembered that googling exists. I remember once this lady kept putting her link on all my threads because she wanted me to have her link in case I wanted to read her work. I doubt she even considered that i could look at the dozens of other threads she'd spammed on or searched her name in the forum to find her link.
