Photobashing for comic background?

I've been thinking about experimenting a bit with photobashing to create more realistic looking background. Has anyone of yall ever tried this? howd it work out? are there any examples in a webcomic?

If you use it as a template to trace over you can make it blend with your normal artwork pretty well. If you just put it in there and it doesn't match your artwork it's pretty jarring.

it's not a technique i've tried at least that i can remember but i imagine with the right filters and maybe some over painting it would look just fine the main thing will just be finding a way to blend it well with your artstyle so the discrepancy isn't too jarring

that's like i'm aware that csp has a tool that can switch photos to something more cartoony/manga looking but idk about other programs

I see. I'm imagining something like what concept artists do. A lot of effects, blending and layering to make the style match.

Report on my experiment after a hour and a half. A mostly photobash background is too slow to be viable for me.
But I learned a few cool texturing tricks here that I could use in the future!

I'm not very good at drawing complex architecture, but since I like to walk around old post-industrial places and take a lot of photos, I sometimes use them in my comics backgrounds I have a very painting-ish artstyle so I can easily blend photos with my drawings by using some filters and overpainting. An example:

wow that looks great! how long did the process take you? and does this affect other pages where you can't photobash?

Thanks! It was quite a while ago so I may not remember best, but I'd say about an hour or two. I don't think it affects other pages that much, but I'll leave that to judge for yourself

This scenery begins in "Before the Master Comes" and reappears in the end of "To kill or not to kill" episode.
