I personally don't swear a lot but I don't mind it. The norm where I live is to use swear words now and then but not in every sentence. It might have something to do with a cultural difference. Few are religious where I'm from so calls to the devil (which lots of our swear words stems from) doesn't have that strong of an impact. It also happens that we import English swear words, and then again, they probably don't have as strong of an effect to non native speakers.
I don't mind swearing in stories/writing since people swear irl and therefore I think that they should be able to swear in fictional work as well. Although, like others have said, using swear words to try to make a character look cooler most likely won't work. What it might do is to depict a character that is insecure and wants to seem cool by swearing, which could be useful in some stories. But I also consider demographics, I wouldn't put in profanities in works for children or where it wouldn't make sense otherwise. It might be the norm to use swear words where I'm from, but that doesn't mean that everyone swears all the time, it usually happens when one gets surprised, angry, hurt, stubs their toe etc. Then there always are people who swears in every sentence, but they're probably as common as the people who never swears.
I don't think censoring swear words makes any sense unless it's a stylistic choice or if you're forced to due to the platform you're on. You normally know what your character is saying. And if the reader is able to follow along a whole sentence except from one word it's... a bit weird to me. Another thing would be if the character was more distant and you only knew that they were raging or similarly, then you probably wouldn't hear any specific words.
