Please don't advertise your work in the comments of someone else's

When leaving a comment on a novel or comic, please keep it relevant to the work you're commenting on.

In other words, DON'T ADVERTISE YOUR WORK IN SOMEONE ELSE'S COMMENTS!

I'm not sure if it's a site rule, but it really should be. Maybe it's just not enforced.

If you really want to solicit readership from a specific content creator, Direct Message them or write on their wall. Using their work to advertise yours is in extremely poor taste. If you did do this in the past, you can go delete your comment. Even better, you could leave an relevant comment in its place and send an apology DM to the creator

And in my opinion, asking them to read your work is effectively an advertising attempt, even if you word it along the lines of "Your work was great, and I'd really like it if you go read mine!"

Feel free to advertise your works when commenting on my work (I usually follow your profile and check out the work of those who comment even if you don't blatantly say it)

okay, I suppose it was a personal opinion of mine rather than a hard, fast rule.
I just was disappointed when someone who had a work with more views, likes, and comments came and left an advertising comment in my work. What really bothered me was my views, likes, and comments didn't go up so it looked like they weren't bothering to read my novel. I just thought it was in poor taste.

Yeah don't do that. if your work comes up somehow in conversation, it could be ok to link. If the post is just advertising your work, that's really bad.

im usually 50/50 on this if even. most cases i prefer comments relative to the work and if a person must advertise themselves then reach out to me via dm and even then consider the works that i already read prior to advertising (my reading list is open for that reason)

but when it comes to people doing this in comment sections is definitely does feel like poor taste. like I'll check out a persona profile just out of curiosity if they leave an interesting comment or if their profile ixon looks interesting especially of artists or artstyle (one of the reasons i tend to get miffed over ai stuff being on the site) but yeah its definitely a little shallow if not ameturish.

The one and only time I've ever deleted a comment from my series, it was someone advertising their own. So, yeah... Definitely agree.

It's definitely in bad taste to use someone else's comment section to promote your own story... Especially when it's a brand new story that doesn't even have 10 readers yet. (I just had someone do that to me so it's been especially annoying to me lately. Screenshot shown below without creator name so they don't get any attention, positive or negative)

The only time I don't find it off putting to see someone else's stuff advertised while reading a story is when it's in the author's notes or somewhere in the actual story (referenced during story or ad at end of episode). That shows there was some sort of agreement that the creator was alright with another using their story to advertise their stuff. Otherwise, it's like going into a restaurant to hand out flyers for a different restaurant.

Promote your work under someone else's story comment section?
What a quick way for me to delete that comment. We get enough spam from scammers asking to join their discords or commission them for art. I don't need links to other works, too.
