No part of my reply to you states that your view is not welcome as you are implying. The poll reflects three varying approaches to writing, all of which every writer has, is and will employ at one time of their career or other.
The two lines of my post that you are referring to gives you the ground for the opinion you express only by taking it out of context. The line that says ‘this is the approach of seasoned professionals’ - it does not say it is ‘of only seasoned professionals’ – anyone can have that approach. My post postulates that experience will give you that kind of focus and drive. And at no point do I mention that no one else can have that drive.
The poll deals with merely the approach of writing a story, so how did you assume that it involves the entire process of publishing? At which point does any of my posts say that rewrites or re-drafts are not allowed. The poll is about the ‘approach’ to writing – the mindset of how a writer gets working, the method they use and what the results of said methods could be.
Yes, making a living comes after the writers can successfully publish something that is properly planned and executed. So then what do you have against such a positive approach?
There are some responses here on this thread that echo the third approach being one that leads to too many varied and incomplete endeavours and having to ultimately give up on them. No one will get hurt or discouraged if they accept flaws and improve their efforts if they so choose.
Over the years I’ve evolved from starting with the third approach then growing into the second and now mostly use the first. It’s a learning process for those you care to acknowledge it, for others who have a better way, please share your views with the rest of us here.
Cheers!
