“You look good,” I say. “I feel bad because you made an effort to cook and dress up, but I come here not putting the slightest bit of effort to present myself well.”
“It's fine. All of this is actually a last-minute decision so I couldn't have possibly informed you to wear something formal.” He smiles. “Let's just enjoy dinner.”
“It’s the only way, big sister.” Yuma hefted her stick and expertly twirled it in her hands. “Someone has to throw these hunters off the scent of the children. And you know well enough that I can take care of myself.”
“What are you thinking of doing, you little idiot?” Maedra stood up, her fear-filled eyes staring right into her sister’s calm blue ones.
“That is insane. I forbid it.”
“You’re no good at fighting and I’m no good at taking care of the youngsters, Mae.” Yuma’s tone would brook no argument. “I’d say we have our work cut out for us.”
"Bring me their heads." His commanding officer had said softly.
“Easier said than done.” Kadrek rumbled deep in his expansive chest, standing up again to his full height.
"Yes, hi," the man greeted and smiled just as sweetly—just as fake. "I'm your neighbor from two houses across," he pointed somewhere that I didn't bother looking at, "and I heard some distressing sounds coming from here. Just wanted to check up on you and see how you're doing."
"Oh?" I pretended to consider his words then laughed, motioning to my head with all the fingers of my right hand while my left gripped the meat cleaver tightly. "I'm a little clumsy. Sorry for the disturbance."
I glance over at Slade, "Let's split up, we can cover more ground that way."
Slade gives me a bizarre expression and speaks, "Are you really sure that is a good idea Jervy?"

Enjoy.
Hefting his massive blood stained axe in one hand and the sack in the other, Kadrek strode forward.
“You damned malignant fool.” A rasping, yet deep voice sounded from the left.
“You’re not the only one who can track and hunt, Okarg.” Another voice, grating and sneering, replied to the first one. “This one is mine.”
“Why don’t you show your poem to your sister?” he gently probed.
Kyler stiffened. She lowered her head, her straight shoulder-length hair covering her face like a curtain. “I tried.”
“And?”
She wrung her hands in her lap and remained silent. Will waited until she let out a short breath. “Valerie was busy on her phone.”
[[ context: two soldiers in the middle of battle have just watched the prince they're sworn to protect jump from one pirate ship to another ]]
Gabe crouched beside Imran, frame coiled into a ready stance. “Did you see that jump?”
Imran rolled his eyes. “We should make a leash for him. If we lose him in battle, his father will wring my neck.”
She chuckled darkly, rubbing the right side of her neck, "If you were to exit this vehicle, my staff would have to clean up your corpse."
She grinned, watching the delight vanish from his eyes, his smile fading. His nose wrinkled, and a trembling frown graced his mustached lips, "Is...Is that a threat, Mrs. Dante?"

You know, out of context, these lines come off as a bit strange...
"Faster!" Min-Soo shouted again, the little veins in his neck popping out. He was so much nicer when I first met him, I swear.
"You just told me to take it slow!” I snapped back defensively, my nerves wearing thin from the constant back and forth banter we had succumbed to.
Ah yes, another opportunity to confuse any of my readers who might be following this thread. Chapter 44 heheh.
“Y-you didn’t know?” Joey forgot on the spot he was having a fit of anger when he heard the sincerity in my voice and turned around again.
“Everyone always told me it was an accident. I-I always thought it must have been a car accident or something, not… this."
“Silence, fool!” The one called Okarg growled. “Don’t you see, Malach, this one was leading us away from the rest… the young ones, the most tender…”
“Three of my kin are dead because of your most tender morsels… you are the fool, Okarg.” Malach snarled back. “I will feast on this one here and now.”
This conversation is a little less impactful without already knowing the characters. I mostly write goofy dialog, but I'm fond of this wholesome moment. The context here is that a couple of ancient aliens, Isis and Odin, flew their spaceship into a trap. Isis is a rabbit at the moment, and Odin is a pig. Space pirates are trying to kill them.
Odin concluded, "Trying to find a way out of this trap is like ploying space."
Isis placed her paw on Odin's hoof and said, "Sweetie, I need you to listen to me very carefully. I have known you for over a billion cycles. You are the wisest intellect in the known universe, and I believe that you can plow space."

“You need to eat to gather your strength, Arden.” Sora said softly and placed a small hand on the handsome boy’s shoulder.
“I couldn’t agree more.” Hari grinned, eyeing her delicate hand on Arden’s thickly muscled shoulder. “A boy your size should be eating twice as much as I do.”
“Something has frightened those birds to take flight.” Arden observed and scratched the back of his head.
“Could be a fox or a snake.” Hari shrugged, not at all interested in going anywhere near the Dark Forest.
"Uff, why did you pour from this one?! It's the one the girls made last year. Tastes like vinegar!" The mirror witch made a disgusted face from reminiscing the taste. Blagovest placed the cup near his raven like nose and sniffed. It didn't smell bad.
"Pff, you think I will let them break a damadjana with the nice wine?" Delyana smiled widely, her eyes having a mischievous spark. "I switched them, so our pretty ones have a taste of their work. We are not going to be the only ones that suffer from its taste." And she took a big sip.
