We turned a sharp corner, and the corridor widened into a strange chamber. I froze. Evan ran into my back and stopped, his hand immediately going to the hilt of his sword.

We weren’t alone.

On the far side of the chamber, under a nest of blackened roots, a massive demon hunched over something limp. Wet sounds echoed—chewing, slurping, cracking. Something that wasn’t just eating.

It was a feasting.

After a long passage through dry lands and simple houses, finally the first high wall of House Mithra was visible in the moonlight. Entry lights, small braziers, or distant torches occasionally flickered. The stone columns of the gateway bore two seated lions upon them.

But one of the lions had cracked, and a stone had fallen from its right eye.

Mahvan paused—for he knew this meant "the guardian is blind"—meaning the House's gate was defenseless against evil.

But when he turned his head, he saw that Arash and Azar had fallen asleep—perhaps simple sleep... perhaps something from beyond the gate had crept into their dreams.

He murmured under his breath: "It's nothing special... just a broken stone... perhaps."

And he entered.

But something heavy settled in his heart... for he knew this simple crack heralded the breaking of traditions and the coming of something new.

With her supplies laid out beside her she set to work taking off Percival's clothes. First the leather glove, the blood and sweat caked within it stuck to his flesh like glue. It made an audible rip-pop when she finally yanked it off. It smelled of dead skin, a foul stench comparable to urine. Mayme hardly noticed. She tossed the glove aside and went to work on the buttons of his jacket. Her hands paused, hovering above him. The fabric only lightly grazed her fingertips when his chest rose, and slipped away entirely as it fell. She wanted to stop him from dying, yes, however she wanted nothing to do with his body. The thought of touching him soured her stomach.

And since everyone else thus far has added conversation, I suppose I can also get away with it...

Rat wrapped her hardtack in a sweaty, frayed handkerchief and slammed it hard against the table with a loud thwack. It did not break, it only bounced. It usually took a few good bludgeoning from her to shatter, unless her father stepped in to help. He could just break it in his hands. Unfortunately Eddie was too preoccupied with the rum and switchel. She was two thwacks in before Oliver noticed her struggling, and three by the time he got to her.
”Allow me, Imogen.”
”Rat,” she corrected. Her cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk’s and her brow furrowed. She thought she looked pouty. She handed her handkerchief to him and immediately crossed her arms when he took it.
Grasping the wrapped hardtack, Oliver first tried to break it with his hands as Eddie would. It did not give. His face reddened, either from how much force his shaking arms exerted, embarrassment, or the fact he forgot to breathe. After a short while he let out a desperate gasp as if he had come up from drowning and resorted to Rat’s method of wielding it like a flail. It took him two thwacks before it broke. His eyes couldn’t meet hers as he handed back her handkerchief and muttered something so softly it was unintelligible.

Akala: ok I guess you hate how 3 men had to die so I can get healed. You see... one man could have been ok but... you gotta understand they're weaker than average men so I had to use 3 of them. ^_^

It's not my fault they're weak! Their spiritual bodies have been so damaged by the same human society you angels are trying desperately so hard to save... when we all know It's so fuckin over!

“So he’s in on this, too?” Anwir snorted at her question.

“Obviously, he’s the Headmaster, how else could all this secrecy have been pulled off? Moreover,” Anwir’s eyes glimmered in mock pity at their faces. “Did you seriously expect him to be honest in the first place? Let me tell you now, his ‘honesty’ is as good as that horrendous, smiling facade he puts up. And in case certain individuals require more explanation: it’s. Fake.” Anwir finished his sentence, the last parts directed with a subtle side-eye at Mahan, who snarled, but Anwir shushed him.

My awareness kept spreading out in layers all over the battle zone. I knew what every ship in my fleet did instantly. Formations, munitions levels, damage reports.
My cybernetic control over all of them was absolute, incoming and outgoing data moved flawlessly. I weaved my agile fighters between my battle cruisers, diving low and soaring high after the enemy craft.
The guidance system of every ship at my command, we moved in precise and perfect formation.

At the barrier’s edge, they came into view. Five cloaked intruders stood in a loose formation, unmoving and silent, as if carved from stone.

“Oh, Brother was right after all!” a female voice chirped, her bright tone slicing through the stillness like a bell. Then it soured, her words dripping with disappointment. “But why’d it have to be an old man with an eyepatch? I’m not interested anymore.” She sighed and slipped behind the central figure, her disdain clear.

I know he deserves better. I know he deserves someone who sees through the armor, someone who won’t flinch at the sharp edges. And maybe, subconsciously, my mind decided that someone could be me. Not because I want to fix him—that sounds like a hero story from a cheesy movie—but because a part of me believes I could belong in his story, quietly, where he doesn’t have to perform, doesn’t have to be always on guard.

And that’s terrifying. Because I also know I deserve better. I know I shouldn’t be drawn to impossible. I know he’s chaos, and I’m craving peace. But even knowing that, my mind keeps circling, keeps imagining—a soft hand reaching the rough corners, a quiet smile behind the scowl, and somehow, in my head, I’m the one standing there.

Maybe it’s the version of him that doesn’t exist… but maybe it’s the version I want to see, and somehow, my heart is already living in that story.

“And pretty?!!” Kenny hyped up just once more. The pointed, triangular nose that Kenny wished would breathe down his neck, that deep, satin voice whispering into his ear. the plump lotus-pink lips that Kenny wanted to run his fingers along then kiss and suck on until they became cherry red, the emerald, green eyes he wished would share every emotion with him and the fine slender figure he could easily wrap his arm around and caress the smooth satin skin.
“Pretty?” Denny raised his eyebrow with a smile, “Well maybe…I haven’t seen him in quite a while”. It made Kenny giggle until it gradually progressed into a loud hearty chortle. He grabbed his pillow and buried his head into it to stop it from echoing down the hallways. “Well, look at you” Kenny’s laughter was contagious, it made Denny chuckle, “you’re head over heels for him, aren’t you?”
“I AM!” Kenny yelped mid-pant, rocking back and forth in excitement before slowly came back down to his senses. He looked at his brother, then looked away quickly, chewing on the inside of his mouth in embarrassment. Denny scooted closer and put a big-brotherly arm over Kenny’s shoulder.
“Then tell him” Denny instructed.

His face went blank, but some thought made his mouth tighten. He didn't know what the hell he was doing there, sitting, watching her sleep. He didn't want to think about her at all. But something about that dream had shattered him, broken something inside him that kept feelings and memories at bay. And he certainly wasn't used to waking up with wet cheeks and a lump in his throat. Much less remembering what it felt like to care about something.

John stared at the blank screen for a few moments and suddenly fear took over his body. He immediately tried calling her back but it didn't go through. He opened Twibbler to try and find her page and when he searched up her name, he was greeted with a message that made the fear in his body multiply.

'Woah, ya'll said that in-sync... that's crazy,' the stoner, mousy-haired and bespectacled, swung in front of us, arms limp by his side as he maintained a backwards walk. He looked like he had borrowed his older brother's clothes.

'Are you lesbians?' the man asked, a sudden sparkle in his eyes as he pressed his hands against his cheeks, like a kid meeting Santa at the mall for the first time.

'No,' I replied curtly, unfortunately synchronized with Allie's louder: 'Yes.'

'Woah, my first lesbians... so cool~' he gushed before twirling out of sight, allowing Allie and I to continue our awkward march in silence. Was he... wearing Heelys?
