Well i came up with my idea at first because i was inspired by a concept my friend decided to scrap of a brother coming home from war in a post apocalyptic world. This was about 11 years ago when i was 14 and in 9th grade. I decided to expand upon it and have the main character have a metal arm that he lost in a explosion due to him exploring a factory but i scrapped it. It was inspired by Full metal alchemist and Naruto. At the time i started to get back into shows like DBZ, and Yuyu Hakasho and i took some influnece from that as well. Also the show Supernatural which i was into heavily at the time, i wanted a comic about "two brothers who fight monsters". I changed stuff up about that and decided to give the people in my story powers but wanted to make it more how peoples abilities and limitations are in real life for example irl theres people who can train and become stronger and then theres people who no matter what they do cant. Basically in my story everyone has powers and multiple people can have the same power but while one person can create an inferno with his power the other person can only generate a tiny flame. Some people are talented, strong, or just have more potential than others similar to real life.
I wanted to have a story that was darker and was in a world devoid of goodness and the only shred of humanity left was in a group of mercenaries while everyone else were bloodthirsty and evil. Eventually that evolved to the city (Kyyber City) in my comic where the weak people who have very little power live and have different clans and groups protect them from the out skirts in exchange for refuge and food.
When i was in foster care at 16 i became friends with a guy and we collabed on different ideas for my book and he really wanted to have an anti hero type character in the book who was a rival to my main character. I decided to design the character off of him and his likeness. Thats where my character Hikaru came from. I also wanted to have him relate to me in some way and decided to have him be adopted by some one of a different race. In my case i was adopted by a native american woman and he was adopted by a japanese inspired man(i changed it to make his race a little more ambiguous). I was brought up in a way that was very different than my birth family's lifestyle and i reflected that in my book with how Hikaru was raised to be a ninja even though his biological family are not. Around that time i got introduced to the Berserk 1998 anime and was instantly hooked and really made me want to create a series with a more serious and dark tone. But i also wanted to have ore elements akin to DBZ, YYH, Avatar, Naruto and Bleach.
Religion was something that really inspired me and i decided to research different ones and use them in my comic. Norse, Greek, Japanese, Hindu and Chinese were some of the main ones but not the only ones. I decided to use real world religions as the humans interpretations of the Gods in my comic. Most are obviously false religions but are used for whatever purpose suits certain people in my comic. Wars are started over who has the superior deity that each group worships which led to the world drastically changing before the beginning of the book.
The world of Pitch Black is kind of split between scifi elements and fantasy elements. 3/4 of the world decided to use thier powers for other things and embrace technology while 1/4 refused to change and continued to use their powers for combat. So the world has knights, ninja, vikings, samurai, barbarians, amazons, etc but at the same time has advanced technology and more futruristic things such as robotic arms, energy weapons, nuclear weapons, cars(they dont exist due to the apocolypse but are still known) modern cities. All of that was made possible by the people who did have any combat applications for their powers. They decided to survive with out war but also use their powers.
All in all i wanted to create a comic with all the stuff that i loved and tell a compelling and original story but also have clear references to my biggest influences. Its my dream to finish this and I'm in the beginning of making it I'm only 18 pages in so far but hopefully i can create a story that people enjoy and love. I really like your story btw you seem very passionate about it and i hope you do well with whatever you decide to do with it.
