Heck yeah for the unconventional!

In Secunda, my protagonist Patience (age 25) has a number of relations.

First is Anax, a monster who has accepted her as his host. He's a skull that Patience wears and he can form his own limbs and a body etc. The first few chapters focus on establishing their relationship as they learn to deal with each other and grow to enjoy each other's company. The rest of the story is about how Patience juggles the human men in her life, with Anax in tow of course.

Second is Schuler (age 42), he's a good-hearted musician suffering from wanderlust. Patience has known him for the past 6 years and he's become her closest confidant. He's proposed to Patience before but she declined him for personal reasons. Now she may just reconsider what with the events that will unfold.

Third is Valon (age 56), he's an intimidating hunter that Patience comes across. Experienced in tracking and capturing/killing monsters, he may just have Anax in his sights next. Unless Patience has her say in things.

Reasons I like exploring these relationships: 1. I love monster x human pairings because ~~kink~~ they're interesting and 2. I know a lot of people dislike large age gaps in couples, but I'm forming ones in which there is little to no power imbalance, to hopefully make it more palatable, at least in my story.

I don't have a monster, but my unconventional pairing is a monster-fighting lord and one very unfortunate blacksmith (although the story itself is a slow burn, so the pairing won't start for a while).
The difference in social rankings add a lot of interesting issues though (not to speak of being gay in 1864).
Perhaps not as unconventional as the others, but I feel it's still an unlikely thing to happen.

Well what about one of them is a demon, a lot older than the guy and also has split personality? How that counts as an odd couple? And if they were forbidden to make out because the girl is a succubus? 73 nice readers thinks that this series is worth reading. Help us reach the 100th.

I mean... SPOILERS here, but yeah, my pairing is pretty unconventional:

They're two dudes. One is white, the other is half white, half Maori. ...They are both reincarnated souls from Arthurian legend. Aaaaand one of them (SPOILER PART HERE) is not always human - he's fae and demon. So that's different, right?

In future, I have plans to have more reincarnated Arthurian legend people getting into unconventional relationships, but that's WAY too spoilery

XD She's a love interest to a Face Hugger, I love that. I myself have always been okay with big age gaps in stories so long as there's no power imbalance. That's why Love in the Afternoon is one of my favorite movies LOL. You earned yourself a sub with such interesting love interests~!

I don't publish any novels on tapas at the moment - I used to have a novel project but it wasn't going too smoothly and I didn't have hte time to work on it anymore! Instead I spend all my prose time on fan-fiction just to polish up my skills. I'm a better comic creator than novelist at the moment. I didn't actually realise OP was looking for mostly novels so oops.

bachelor number 2: A short fox spirit who is slotted to be the next Inari

Composer: "Again. We're not married. Please get a job and lighten my burdens... I have a family and 10 boarding students I need to care for."

Witch: "..............Make me, honey. Nyaa-haa!"

Composer: "I'll cut your rations."

Witch: "(OxO)! I-I'm sorry! I'm really sorry! P-please don't take away the only thing that's keeping me alive!"

Composer: "... Snacks are not healthy for your livelihood, Penny."

I cant link this because its not public anywhere and it was supposed to be a VN anyway but...

I once worked on a story... well it was basically a story wherein a married couple was basically recovering from the fact one of them was... well... formerly physically abusive to the other. Yeah I had to be VERY careful with that one because it only really works if the abuser really has turned a corner. I really had to sell the idea she had come around ya know? Serious therapy and really working to be better. It wasn't like she just came home after being arrested it was the sort of process that took years and her partner had to really work through some shit before she felt safe around her again.

If you're gonna do abusive relationships and not just make it AWFUL for all involved you really gotta be careful with trying to redeem that to make it clear their behavior was not acceptable and it was never going to happen again. I'm sure I'll get pushback that even under the most careful of circumstances they should not be back together. You know and maybe you're right, I just depict the relationship as it is and I really wanted to give the player the space to judge it on the parameters I gave it. I know some think physical abuse is beyond forgiveness and that's not an invalid position to have. I wanted to give the most nuanced situation I could put that out there and see what people thought.

I was VERY careful not to cut the abuser any slack nor was I about to make her road to recovery easy. She would have to go through hell and back to justify having any shot at all... and she did and they married before the story started. Their relationship is still not without its issues and the wife has her own issues which make their marriage very complicated. If I really went into it there was load and loads to unpack and that's what i loved about it.

on the Less serious side? Empress of Veils has a sort of open marriage between Scarlett and her Wife(Wives) in fact her goal is to go out and find other women to romance and marry. Her first wife mostly uses their open marriage for sexual intimacy if I'm honest but Scarlett using it for romance and to find long term partners is more interesting at least to me. Not gonna link it because its a comic but wanted to bring it up anyway,

Not a generally romantic story being it's a what-if epilogue of a bad ending Beauty and the Beast. Human Beauty and the Beast who is a dragon. And a human main character, the Beast, and a frog spirit.

Beauty and the Beast were not a perfect romance, as the MC will uncover as he deals with a bitter, violent, hurt, and angry Beast, and grows to mutually care more for an immature, pleasant and caring frog spirit.

ONE human disaster necromancer + ONE makeup wearing makeup werewolf boy = HECK LOTTA MAKEOUTS (though are werewolves unconventional anymore?)

One is impulsive-chaotic and doesn't care about rules, and the other is generally responsible but very possibly easily influenced by stronger, more confident personalities he's attracted to. Their names are one of the many jokes, so I can't say. :3a

Supervillain newbie River who can control tech with brain and the love interest is The Sentinel, a superhero android who used to be a supervillain. River is afraid of failure but trying to be ambitious. Sentinel is cold and efficient, but (in an interesting way) sympathetic at times.They will fall in love one day, but this is a slow burn.

All my writing interests delve into unconventional couples a little haha!
