There was jingling sound as Abelard put one foot in the stirrup and swung the other foot over the horse. He adjusted his seat and pulled his lance from where he'd planted it into the ground.
Toshiro took a running start and vaulted onto his own horse. Like Abelard, he took the reins in his left hand, leaving his right hand free to check his bow.
The others did the same with their equipment. Even the priest made sure he could draw his saber.
Toshiro looked around and spoke. From the tone, it must've been "Where is everyone?"
The river murmured. Somewhere, a dog barked. A wooden sign swung in the wind.
Herger growled and stalked down the boardwalk, tapping the walls and doors with his axe.
You looked into a window. Someone stared back from behind a curtain, then pulled the curtain shut.
