I started writing my novel "Damsel in the Red Dress" for the True Love On Tapas Competition, but I kept writing it because I loved it so much. I was inspired by lots of parts of my own life and those of people I know. I wanted to dig deep into the emotions of my FL's recovery and tell the story of someone trying to push forward to keep living their life and dreams despite trauma, mental health struggles and a literal car accident that nearly cost their life. The more I learn about the characters the more I want to write about them. I started writing the novel's sequel because I knew I needed to write about the ML more and show the world behind everything that looks beautiful at first glance.
I started writing my novel "A Dozen Morning Glories" for a different competition, but I'm attached to it because of the challenge. The female lead is so different from me in every way it challenges me as a writer to learn to weave mindsets and emotions (or a lack there of) in a way that brings them to life. I think my goal or reason behind every story I write is to make my readers feel what my characters are feeling. This novel is particularly important to me I think is because I get to write the process of my female lead discovering her own emotions, since she doesn't really have them in the beginning, and over time as they grow stronger, the readers will get to feel them more and more along with her.
"Rigamarole" was made for a challenge I made myself, to write a whole novel from prompts, but the story itself stemmed from the single idea of a girl trying to save her best friend (who also happens to be her little brother) from his eating disorder. I'm passionate about the idea that having someone on your side is life-savingly important, so writing this bond and the gravity of having someone in your corner despite the chaos you're feeling inside is why this story is something I feel I HAVE to write.
