Hi all! Was wondering how you guys promote on social media - I found TikTok gets the most engagement (posting cutesy pictures/interactions with my characters) but the least amount of conversions to actual views or subs as compared to Reddit or forums

I know TT is some people’s biggest promoter but I also struggle to find time to draw things outside of just my comic and some other personal projects even though interacting with those is fun

Would love to know your guys promotional tips - I’ve gotten so much good advice here!

Anyways if you want to check out my comic it’s Blood Soda - a modern fantasy about a young vampire girl and her influencer friends! Drop yours too so I can check it out I want more comic moots :3

I noticed I needed to post like once a month to get an engagement spike (reddit or Facebook mostly). Just because they're not subbed doesn't mean they're not reading your comic

I actually get the most engagement on youtube shorts and I appreciate the analytics that it gives me, very in depth. I actually have more 100x more followers on Tiktok, but I still end up getting more engagement from youtube :skull: I'll get comments like this on random videos of mine that have 29 views and 3 likes
but I know that algorithms can be fickle things, so it's entirely possible that I just got lucky

Personally, I'm not super into social media, so I'm not on a whole lot. But I have found that Cara is super nice and chill, as it is just for artists and portfolio sharing. Makes it a special community, and feels more intimate socially as far as the internet goes. lol
Cara lets you do a shout out to the whole site, so anyone can ask questions or share things to involve others in, and then that's up for grabs to Cara's community. I found that to be rather engaging with people. They also try and get people follows by sharing those who are just starting on the site, or who are under 100 follows.

I would suggest BlueSky, but I don't like it at all. lol But some enjoy using it!

Discord has a lot of art communities too, if you're interested in that kind of thing. :}

I do Reddit primarily, along with Deviantart, Instagram, Facebook, and now Bluesky.

Reddit definitely has the best results but only if I can get a comic to 'catch,' and it works best with one-off humor rather than any story genres.

Deviantart's fine but they don't come here usually. Instagram is worthless in my experience. Facebook is good for networking with other creators but I haven't figured out how to reach actual readers there. Bluesky's been pretty good, I've never understood the twitter format well, but at least there's a lot of energy on BS for now. I've never used TT or YT shorts but that's because I haven't gotten around to making video content (I know I should, I just don't have time!).

Wow I didn’t know deviant art was still active honestly! And yes I agree with Reddit, I usually get the best results if I post a page or two (that’s sometimes even the whole update-) but it gets people to leave the app and check out the whole comic so I guess it works well enough!

Honestly? My love/ hate relationship with social media tends to point at the hate side of the dial most days and the idea of "building a brand" by being another willing participant in the data-mining and ad-serving scams of these social media corporations repulses me. I accept the nature of the beast but that doesn't mean I want to suckle from its poisonous teat.

I do promote on Bluesky and Pillowfort when there's an update. Here in the Promotions forum.
