Publishing Questions: Putting Books on shelves

For those of you who have published their books comics/novels:
Did you self publish? and how is that going?
Do any of you have your stories in stores? can you get your stuff in barns and nobels and other like stores or does the require traditional publishing?

I have always been interested in seeing at least one of my books on a store shelf and I have been conidering speaking to my local comic book/ small bookstores to possibly sell my stories on concinment. Has anyone did this and do you have any tips?

While I'm not personally published, though it's kind of something I'm sort of maybe interested in, I did learn about a program my local library has for young or just local writers in general to get their books both in digital markets and possibly physical print. Can't recall if it got those books into bookstores, tho I imagine its possible, but i know it got them on library shelves and honestly I personally would be fine with that as a start even if it's for that kind of sentimentality in growing up reading in libraries from childhood to now.

That is to say if you've got one I don't think it'd hurt to check out local libraries and I've heard of some folks who self pub-ed that'd ask small local bookstores or comic shops if they could host copies of their work there so another potential place for inquiry but I do hope you get more bites since it is a lingering curiosity of mine especially for stuff outside of getting picked up by any of the major hosting sites or going through A*mazon

Not published yet, but i plan on publishing physical copies of mine. It's probably difficult to get your book on store shelves i imagine you gotta make connections or something. Depends on the store... I mainly wanna publish a physical copy so i can point at it like a caveman and say "i did this"

I haven’t published yet - aside from one self-published novel I had printed when I was sixteen back in 2012 - but I do have plans to publish printed omnibuses of Nixvir. The series itself is enough to last at least eighteen volumes or more. I’ve been planning everything for a very long time, playing the long game and all that sort of stuff.

My brother publishes his books, I draw the illustrations and cover art.
It can be hard to get them into shops when you publish yourself, you
have the full control over it on the other hand. I wouldn´t publish it
myself if it was my project and I would always look for a publisher
who does the distribution, promotion and has the contacts.
Whenever I talk to my brother about self publishing it sounds like
the last thing I want to do.

Oh, I totally glossed over library potential. Ik our local one has quiet a few community events so that could be something really cool to check out.

I havent yet but I know some trusted local publishers. And the 30 year old manga store in the large metropolitan city I'm in. Loves my artwork and is willing to sell it and any merch I have. He supports indie too if he thinks his customers will like it. It is a business after all.
