Question: Do you like to see a bit of NSFW in the animes you watch?

I watch anime geared for adults and they still have those themes lol all the anime everyone gushes over thats popular for adults that spawns a shit ton of fan support still have weird fanservice.

ok, weird fans service how? cause I watch primarily none ecchi senines and I barley see weird fan service =/
also just gave a quick search on MAL and there are only 9 seinen out right now and of those only 1 had ecchi=(very sexual fanservice) so I don't know if either you have bad luck or are really picky about fan service XD

I'm not saying horror can't be paired with other genres. I'm saying that if you're doing a story based on a genre...you should still have that genre in there. Ok, I shouldn't forget that the horror is there. Or that the romance is there. Or that whatever else.

Tags or not aside, I'm going back to my main point that NSFW and Ecchi shouldn't overtake the story if you're trying to sell a serious story and you gave your readers that idea that it wouldn't overtake the story.

If you're not trying to tell a serious story and you want it to be in your face? Fine -- that's a different story.

But if you're trying to give me something that's not just ecchi (horror or thriller or whatever)...I need more context than just ecchi. Don't just throw boobs at my face and think I won't notice. I mean, boobs are nice, but that's not all I came to read/watch for because that's not all you were trying to sell me.

Just...I know I'm ranting, but I really would rather peeps be upfront and go "yeah, let's do sex but in space or sex but in a zombie invasion" than say "this is a serious crime thriller about the mob corruption in downtown Los Angeles" but all I see are the detectives hanging out around the brothels. Just...be upfront

I think you're sorta missing the point. The point wasn't that you can't do both, the point was, even if it is tagged properly, you can't tell what the ratio is going to be. For instance, GOT had a lot of sex, but imagine if that sex had actually been presented with everything else the same but all the woman had giant gag boobs that bounced ridiculously when they moved. Or if the marketing had all been the same, but it was just ecchi set in a fantasy setting without plot, despite the marketing presenting it as epic battles. The tone of the show and the fanservice should match.

Edit: also, I'm not against ecchi incase anyone thinks that, so taking the tagging point with one of my fave anime Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo. MAL says "Action, Mecha, Sci-Fi" and " R - 17+ (violence & profanity)". No mention of ecchi ect and the summary sounds like a serious show about the struggles of a former royal now in exile having to fight for her life against dragons, like so: "Now, the former royal must adapt to a harsh and vastly different lifestyle; piloting mechanical robots known as "Paramail" to fend off large, devastating beasts referred to as DRAGONs. However, a sinister truth about these savage creatures threatens to change everything.". Now (if you're not easily triggered, please protect yourselves) if you're not familiar with the show please google image it quickly and see where a lot of the actual focus is. Now it does manage to balance the fanservice and tone, and is up front about it in the anime, but you do have to be aware that tags and summaries are not always an accurate portrayal of the anime.

That's why I said look at the genre tags, the problem was that the site tagged only horror (which is weird cause even Kiss has multiple tags) out of 8 other tags two of wich where ecchi and harem if it were tagged properly then you would know that this is a friggin fanservice jumbo pack with extra panties and horror dressing.

There is a broad range of ecchi and harm anime that have varying levels of ridiculousness and varying levels of tonal appropriateness that cannot always be gauged. Trinity Seven is different to Highschool of The Dead is different to Hundred. All school based supernatural stories that act like they have a big plot and epic battle as well as being tagged ecchi that all handle it very different ways. Some try to present themselves as serious then have wildly out of place fanservice. Some balance is well. And some are blatant about their fanerviciness from the start. Some have ridiculously giant boobs, some just like making dirty jokes and having the guy land with his face in the girl's crotch all the time and some you're not sure why they're even tagged ecchi at all. Just because the tag is there doesn't mean you know how it's going to be presented. And just because someone thinks a show has so much fanservice it should be ecchi doesn't mean it actually is.

To echo many people here, it depends.

This season of anime has been a great case in point. We (husband and I) watched the first episode of Plunderer. The main character is this weird guy that is really perverted and gasp he likes panties. The whole first episode was incredibly cringe worthy but I felt determined to finish it hoping it would get better (it didn't). We have just far outgrown characters who are largely motivated by things like a pair of panties.

BUT... then we check out Ishuzoku Reviewers which is the ultimate bottom of the barrel trash anime. We instantly fell in love with it.

It really depends on how it is written into the story. Like High School of the Dead, I enjoyed the fanservice in that just fine because the anime (never read the manga, so just going by the TV anime) was presented as being zombies + boobies and that's what we got.
