Plus, it's a community thing. Underselling yourself is also underselling your industry, and so other editors will be harassed to lower their prices. But I'm extrapolating a bit away from the point.
I know selling yourself is hard, but it's essential to work. Even if you walk into an interview for a job, you're essentially presenting your best version of yourself. Which isn't a bad thing!! And I know we use "underselling yourself" but what we really mean is "underselling your work." AKA your product.
I was assumptive in perceiving you as being from the US, since you used $ (dollars), but of course there are other countries that use the dollar. I have no idea where you could be that $12 gets you a week of groceries (and my intent is not to shame or dox you, don't give out private information that you aren't willing to give) but I think you still need to charge higher. @sushy00 is right -- if you start extremely low, you won't be able to raise it without upsetting your clients that have been used to (abusively) low prices.
I know nobody's forcing you to charge $20 for 20 hours, but you asked about it in the forums, and we sincerely think you should charge higher. It's your choice, and I'm not going to attack you for your choice because you know your limits (bodily and in terms of time) and how currency works where you are better than we do, but as creators and editors, we're sincerely supporting you making a decent, industry-standard wage.
