I had 2 types of projects: a 100% pre-written, pre-edited finished product with episodes anywhere from 600-2,500 words. This worked. Immaculately. I cannot emphasize how much time and effort I spared myself, not to mention how much more traffic this project attracted, just because of the very structured format. Having the whole project done ahead of time helped, and I updated once every few days (anywhere form 2-5 days apart, depending on the approaching deadline, since it was a Writer's Camp novel). (Object and Objective)
My second project was a more traditional novel format, with chapters varying much more in length (anywhere from 2k-5k+ words), and it was a lot harder to gauge because the upload limit is 15,000 characters per segment. This meant breaking up my chapters in awkward places, which I think actually hurt my overall flow. Additionally, a lot more of this one was done on the fly (the NaNoWriMo Writer's Camp), and I attracted far less traffic. But also maybe because I promoted way less than the first time. (E = mc Infinity)
TL,DR: having a finished product with short chapters is best. Have a set schedule, and do your editing way in advance.
