Hey, I'm hoping if the admins could shine some light on this topic.

I wanted to know if Tapastic is currently EUVAT/VATMOSS compliant?
A new legislation came in in the new year that means that any payments from customers/patrons in the EU need to have VAT calculated based on their country of origin. I was wondering if you took on this admin for your creators or if they had to do this themselves?

Bearing in mind this also affects the Non-EU creators, they will have to register and pay EU tax for every EU supporter to their support program. Doing this as a single person is incredibly time consuming and will basically leave them further in the red than the black.

I'd like to know if Tapastic would take into account to deal with the VAT charge when they take their cut from every support pledge?

Naniiebim asked this first but I thought I should post it here for other creators to read (if she doen't want this I'll remove it)

I'm really confused by this new law, so if I may sound deeply ignorant, please forgive me. I wanted to ask those questions a lot, but I didn't know where to ask.
There is something I don't understand : isn't artistic services an exception ? So, why a support system (which will give artistic services in the end) wouldn't be in this case ?
And supporting is supposed to be what kind of digital service ?

As I'm exempt from VAT in my job, I really don't understand anything. Who will pay, in the end ? Me, right ? So i'll have to report everything.

I know that my webcomic is a digital free comic, and I release it in a book after (buyable). So... it's not digital service, if there is a physical book, right ?

Yeah, confusing, as I said earlier...

That would be nice to know more, indeed !

Thank you for the post. We are very surprised because this is old news. Also, this is more of a business/tax issue so even the majority of our internal Tapastic team member does not even know what VATMOSS is. It's very interesting that this is making rounds today.

When we considered 15% flat fee, we've taken everything into account. We know U.K. is on the high-end of 20%, but we believe all countries together including non-Euro countries would average much lower. We simply take care of VATMOSS tax for you (we're more concerned with filing these taxes properly because it's everyone's first time). For U.S. citizens, if you've made certain amount above $X, we send you a W-9 form to fill out and return.

If someone commissions you, thats an exception. If someone hits your goal of $10 where you give a PDF of a comic, that's basically part of the digital download service (because technically they've paid for it) and you will have to pay VAT on that.

I'm WAY WAY below the VAT threshold (way below minimum wage tbh) and I'll have to pay VAT on even my Patreon, because people are paying and in return you're providing digital goods (PDF's, videos etc) for a service.

Big thanks for the explanation smile
It's quite a big mess in the end. I got different versions from the same text and had a hard time to find the text for my own language, so... I has quite a long time before understanding anything.

Still, it's good to know that Tapastic is safe for it.

Hey! The Webcomicchat group on twitter will be discussing this THIS Saturday at 8PM EST/6pm PST as well as rundowns about how artists are coping with this. So please, search #webcomicchat to see what many many artists have to say, from all over the world, about the installation of VAT MOSS and EUVAT!

I missed it since it was 2am my time.
Also I can't seem to find anything after shifting through so much promotion stuff. Is there a compiled text dump anywhere?
