Scheduling comics

Is it better or worse if a comic episode is scheduled every week, 2 weeks or even a month but with a lot of pages?
I saw some creators are updating their series 2-3 pages every 3 days and stuff, too.

Consider how long it takes to read the pages. You may upload 4 pages once a month. It would probably take at most 5 minutes to go through them and then your readers will need to wait a whole month before the next update.
A good rule of thumb is to update at least once a week. Less than that, people are not likely to stick around.

If you need a month to deliver a chapter, I'd love getting a sort of complete piece of story even if once a month. I prefer that way more than getting one page a week like

it's like pausing the movie you're watching every minute for a week. it's so awkward =v=;; gotta reread the previous 3-ish pages anyway or still end up waiting a month for pages to pile up.

the biggest advantage of updating more frequently really is ending up on the fresh update page more often and thus catching more eyes. but the readers who you happen to catch will likely not un-sub cuz you dont update often as long as you update consistently. it doesn't hurt ppl to have a comic in their sub list after all - p sure ppl unsub when story turns out not to be what they like later, or cuz it died.

I've been feeling comfortable uploading 5 pages per week(more if I have more time), always on weekends. I've started 2 months ago, and the readers I have seem to be comfortable with that. Every month I completed a full chapter (with 30 pages or so each).
What I do to stay in the fresh zone is updating a spin off story drawn in a much simpler style that I can update daily, 1 or 2 pages per day. That also gives your subscribers something to read about and keep you in their mind
Aside from that, I have another series in which I upload the art of the main comics and extras of it, giving you readers some extra material is a good idea too. (In the case of this one I don't have a schedule at all tho. Still I try to upload something at least once a week).

And as they said above, consistency is really important!
I'm also a student, and I'm working too, so I get that this kind of things take a lot of time away from doing the comic, as @zetina said, find something that works for you ;D

Best of lucks finding more readers! And don't get desperate if the subs don't go up fast, that's pretty normal. The only people I've seen get subs in just a few days are the ones who already have a base of readers outside Tapastic of if they are featured in the "staff picks".

I'm about to try my hand at updating twice a week, we'll see how that goes. I prefer regular consistent updates. For my webcomic library, once a week is absolutely fine. I like to spend a bit more time with each page for these comics and find that gives me a different perspective compared to if I low through a number of pages.

That said, someone on these forums once mentioned the term "perceived effort". Which I think is a very interesting argument that overrides my need for consistent weekly updates. If I feel like the author has put effort into their work that trumps my typical need for a schedule. I don't know how well this phenomena would work on me with "mainstream" comics but I've found that for certain webcomics it definitely plays a big part for me.

I personally think it's easier to have a buffer of pages before you launch a series. I hardly draw my comics nowadays, but I still give the series at least a month of updates before I launch it. That way if the artist or I have other projects, personal things, or gets sick, we won't have to scramble around for the next update.

Maybe i'm just kind of weird, but I kind of like being left in suspense when i'm reading a good comic xD! I think it's much easier to have a bunch of pages available as a buffer, then just release 1 page per episode once, or twice or however many times you choose per week. It's such an amazing thing to have several pages ready in advance in case some life stuff comes up and you can't update for that week.

I can't do it as well hahaha my chapters are very long and upload them each month, it bothers me a chapter 40 pages 1 page a day is pretty much the same, I do not agree

I guess some people like me can't do a chapter a month even. Including my comic, I have 3 jobs, and the three total about 90-100 hours. ono I would LOVE to do 4-5 pages a week, but it's impossible to do that when I work as detailed as I do and have freelance work for private clients cause comics don't pay my bills. XD. I refuse to change styles to make it easier to get done each week.

Right now I'm at a page a week on Fridays, but I hope to bump it up to two, once on Wed and Fri. I update regularly though, and if I end up working too many hours, I have stuff done in advance to avoid losing a week as best I can. If I wait for a chapter, it'll be TWO MONTHS before an update (following the one page a week). I would rather update once a week with a single page than once every two months with 9.
