Heyoo there. JJ here.
I thought I would make this thread for anyone who wants to get techy in their comics. Say you have a scifi that involves extensive knowledge in derivative markets and machine learning research (I don't know who would but ya never know) OR you just are interested in nerdy shiite. Here I am posting links to sources you can use to look up science related information.
Personally, I think it is easier to look up the particular facts you want to include in your story, unless the story revolves around a STEM subject.
Some quick background:
I am a mathematics major and have dwelled in the world of academic literature. I like to be conscientious of research and have experience with gathering sources and creating a research proposal. SO, these are just some sources I like to use.
SOURCES
If you are a university student, you can use the research sources from your uni's library database. There are, however, free sources you can use.
These will often give you similar results. Subscription databases are often better but unusable unless you are associated with a university.
Here is a wiki page with a list of academic resources
If research literature is too complicated or full of jargon, you can resort to science news which translates the academia jargon to normal English. But be careful as some sources can water it down to the point where the study is misunderstood or implies something not true.
And naturally, a list here.
These sources are great for more applied studies but if you are ever looking for something "pure" and abstract like mathematics or economics, those are found in academic journals.
Feel free to add to the list. These are of course, if you want trusted sources. If you just want to keep it basic, you can always go to reddit and such.
You can also ask me stuff!
Or anyone else with STEM knowledge
Cheers,
JJ
